If you are going through heartbreak or had a heartbreak in the past, Dolly Alderton’s Good Material , might be the only companion you need, or even if you are not, a good book hasn't hurt anyone. Yes yes, I'm back with another book review of Dolly Alderton

The book starts with Andy, a man in his mid-thirties, newly single and completely lost. You must be wondering why lost? So yes! lost because his longtime girlfriend, Jen, abruptly leaves him. His life falls apart both emotionally and financially; he crashes on friends’ couches, struggles with his job as a comedian, and can’t stop replaying what went wrong.
Dolly as always honestly writes about what heartbreak really feels like. Andy is relatable and very human, he overthinks, makes mistakes, and sometimes feels sorry for himself. But you can’t help rooting for him. We always think that, heartbreak is about losing someone, but no in reality, heartbreak isn’t just about losing someone, it’s about losing your sense of self while trying to figure out who you are.
About the endway tho, the story shifts and we get to see Jen’s side, too. Earlier i was being empathetic to Andy, his suffering, loneliness and everything but after reading Jen’s side, breaking up felt like a right decision. So yes both sides hurt, and sometimes there aren’t clear reasons why things fall apart.
Good Material is warm, funny, and deeply caring. So yes! Everyone is just trying to figure it out, and it’s okay to be a bit lost.
Definitely reading this!
