Some features of my reading taste - Contest #3 All About Readers

in Hive Book Club3 years ago

Hi Hivers and Hive Book Club members. I'm just discovering this community and what better occasion to join than participating in the Hive Book Club Contest #3 All About Readers.

I like to read since I can remember. In my family, both my father and my mother were good readers and since I was l child I learned to love reading. When I was a teenager, I remember spending hours awake reading Cien Años de Soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude). At that time, my taste for Latin American literature grew and not only García Márquez, but also Vargas Llosa and Cortázar were among my favorite authors.

My fondness for reading hasn't waned. My husband is even more fond of books than I am. And I'm glad that my son, naturally, has also developed an interest in reading. And he by the way, has just finish reading Cien Años de Soledad.

I like to read suspense, mystery, and romance novels. But in general, any book with a good story is a book that I can read.

What is your favorite time or place to read?

I use to read at night. But I also like to read on Sundays in the morning if we stay at home. After my first cup of coffee of the day I like to lie on the sofa to read. And any time or place that leaves us the chance to read is welcome. For example, during the lockdown, I used to read at any time and I could finish reading a complete novel in just a couple of days.

What makes you enjoy a book?

I enjoy a book when I feel trapped by the story. Books with plots that catch us or that have surprising turns and leave us hooked until we reach the final outcome.

I also enjoy books that make me transport myself with my imagination to places I don't know. Lately, I've been hooked with historical romantic novels and I have realized that I like to imagine what life was like in other distant times.

Do you like to read outdoors, before bed, or on the bus on your way to work?

I use to read before bed. I work at home and when I get out I usually drive so I don't read on the way. But when I have the chance to read outdoor, I do it. I love to read at the beach. I love to sit on a lounger in the shade on a sunny day with the breeze and the smell of the sea while I read. I remember a summer vacation on Margarita Island, we spent much time at the beach and I read the whole novel 11 22 63 by Stephen King on those beach days.

Do you focus on character development, thoughtful messages, or the level of intrigue a plot generates in you?

I think that of these three aspects the one that hooks me the most is the level of intrigue that the plot awakens in me.

I adore those books that since you read the first pages keep you wanting to know what is going to happen. Those which can stay you awake reading until dawn because you need to know.

Although the construction of the characters is also important for me. There are characters in books that come to life in our imaginations that somehow it is as if we actually got to know them or wish to. After all, who doesn't love reading one of those books in which we end up in love with the main character and remains unforgettable in our memory.

I would like to invite my friends @ifarmgirl and @jenfletcher to join the contest.

If you made it this far, thank you very much for reading.

My daughter is a voracious reader but my sons, none of them care to and when I make them it is like I am punishing them.
So it's nice that your son likes reading as does your husband.

I guess my son had someone to follow since my husband is really fond of books.
Thank you for stopping by :)

A wonderful reading entry.
I remember the years I read many books. Now I have many years reading online.

Thank you, amiga! ♡

Es muy interesante que tus padres hayan cultivado en ti ese amor por la lectura. Compartir en familia es muy importante para estrechar lazos afectivos, a mí me gustaba que mis progenitores me leyeran cuentos cuando era niña. Ahora mi esposo y yo le leemos a nuestro hijo que está por nacer. Crear hábitos resulta muy valioso para la construcción de la competencia lectora. Un gusto saludarte.

It is very interesting that your parents have cultivated that love of reading in you. Sharing as a family is very important to strengthen emotional ties, I liked that my parents read me stories when I was a child. Now my husband and I read to our unborn child. Creating habits is very valuable for building reading literacy. A pleasure to greet.

La lectura es un habito que se enseña en casa, si acostumbramos a nuestros hijos a leer desde pequeños a lo mejor no resultan amantes de la lectura pero al menos crearán el habito y lo harán de vez en cuando. Muchas gracias por pasarte a comentar!

Reading on Sundays is peaceful! I loved to do that until I stopped a few months ago. I need to get back into reading during Sundays too.

Read on Sunday mornings after coffee and then have breakfast and go back to the sofa to read. For me, it's a great plan. ;)

It's nice that your son loves reading as much as you and your husband.

I would really love to read the Cien Años de Soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude). Do you think I can get the English version online? Probably on Pdfdrive.com.?

Thank you for stopping by :) And I think it should be easy to get the English version of Cien Años de Soledad online.

I found it 🙈💃

I'll dig into it soon. Thanks for the recommendation.

Great!! You're welcome. I hope you like it. And hope to know about your impression f the book in the future. :)

There is no problem. Thanks ma'am.

I've been hooked with historical romantic novels and I have realized that I like to imagine what life was like in other distant times.

This has been me, too. It's incredible how much stories can do for us. I think romantic stories (XIX century books) are something else in terms of making us dream.

Great personal library, by the way!

Thank you :) I love historical romance novels, last year during the lockdown was the genre I read the most and I discovered some great authors.

You are a reader indeed sis! And glad that your son takes after you and your husband. Thank you for the invite and let me try and write my own too :)

You are welcome, sis! 😘

That is awesome Eli, I love books and shudder to think how many books I have given away to people with all the moves that I have done!

The best thing you can do is think whomever to, you gave the books, are reading them. I'm glad to know that you also love books;)

Reading is a pleasure that only the reader can understand.

I will use that phrase in my publication, when I publish 😂, it just occurred to me.

I read your post in such a nice way that I didn't even notice the questions. Reading sure bonded you to your husband must keeps the desire burning 😁. @coquicoin

A nice phrase indeed. And you almost got another phrase, the reading bonding keeps the desire burning 😂

Thank you, Ana Maria 😘

I might consider making one once I have time 😁. I love books before too.. Now more on articles lol

Now, articles also take my time away from reading books, but I always try to read something, at least on weekends. ;)

Wow is it a family trait or something? 😂 I'm loving the connection really, it's just so beautiful especially with your son beginning to love reading too.

Reading on Sundays? That's a unique one, glad to know that about you ma'am.

By the way, your shelf has a lot of books and I'm surprised to see that you kept the Cien Años de Soledad that your son found it to read also.

Beach reading, I will love to try that out soon. All the best in the contest

Thank you very much! Reading at the beach is so relaxing, try it next time and you'll see. Thanks for stopping by! :)

A family of readers
What a dream.

Thank you for stopping by :)

I like the fact that you have a family of readers from you, your husband, and your son. It is simply one of the best feelings and a bonding moment for you all.

I like to say, we become well-traveled the more we read books. Our imaginations, knowledge, ideas, etc become vast and diverse.

It was a pleasure reading your answers @coquicoin

Thank you @peaq! You are right when we read we can travel with our imagination and live many others lives :) Thanks for stopping by!
