The novel from 1932 by Merrit is terrorific; then we have Leiber's adaptation from the 50's which is not so good, but they even made a movie out of it.
If you've seen everything produced within the horror movie genre over the past decades you'll notice that most if not all of it has been formatted for light consumption.
This book, Burn witch burn, as I mention above, is amazing. If you want a metaphore to describe it, take 100 liters of alcohol and dilute them at 5%, and that 5% would be the TV series Bewitche, do you remember it?
This is a great book recommendation and I will be writing about books constantly, I hope you like the topic.
