Dos almas perdidas en un planeta ambulante, moribundo y a punto de ser consumido por las tinieblas. Seguimos con la temática del romance en este mes de las parejas, claro que este libro es algo distinto a los “romances clásicos” que encontramos en la mayor parte de las librerías. George R. R. Martin nos lleva al rincón más lejano del universo para relatarnos una historia donde el corazón es capaz de darlo todo para conservar sus sentimientos.
The Game of Thrones creator didn't always write about kingdoms; One of those stories that are stored in his history was Dying of the Light, a science fiction novel that deals with love under the prophetic message of sacrifice. Two lost souls on a wandering planet, dying and about to be consumed by darkness. We continue with the theme of romance in this month of couples, of course this book is something different from the "classic romances" that we find in most bookstores. George R. R. Martin takes us to the farthest corner of the universe to tell us a story where the heart is capable of giving everything to preserve its feelings.

Luz y oscuridad siempre han estado en conflicto, sucede que hay ocasiones donde ambas se encuentran para dar vida eclipsar las emociones. Este libro es eso; una danza entre la muerte y la vida, entre las tinieblas y la rusticidad de las salvajes culturas. La desmesurada inconsciencia es la que termina devastando hasta los jardines más fértiles, expandiendo el caos con costumbres erradas y plenamente represivas. Esto es lo que quiso transmitir Martin es su “Muerte de la Luz”, y lo logró…. al menos a mi humilde criterio.
Light and darkness have always been in conflict, it happens that there are occasions where both meet to give life to overshadow emotions. This book is that; a dance between death and life, between the darkness and the rusticity of wild cultures. Excessive unconsciousness is what ends up devastating even the most fertile gardens, expanding chaos with erroneous and fully repressive customs. This is what Martin wanted to convey in his “ Dying of Light”, and he achieved it… At least in my humble opinion.

Dirk se embarca en un viaje hasta Worlorn para salvar a Gwen y sellar las heridas que alguna vez quedaron abiertas antes de la inevitable destrucción que asecha su planeta. Pero, al aterrizar, se encuentra con una inesperada y decepcionante situación: ella tiene dos esposos que además son fuertes integrantes de dos de los clanes más poderosos de Worlorn. Decidido a descubrir la verdadera intención de la carta e Gwen, Dirk se mezcla entre los enemigos esperando hallar respuestas, descociendo lo que realmente podría encontrar en toda esa travesía apocalíptica.

Martin nos lleva al trasfondo mental de los protagonistas; Dirk es un hombre que vaga en sus errores, cuestionando la naturaleza de las acciones que evolucionan desde su mente. Miramos un retrato sentimental de este personaje, apelando al recuerdo y la nostalgia como un escudo a la desazón. Pude identificarme con él en algunos aspectos: su manera de mirar la vida y comprender el amor me inspiraron través de la lectura. Por otro lado está ese choque entre culturas incongruentes, y la deliberada lucha contra la inconsciencia. Y Gwen, esa chica dudosa pero fuerte, que sella todo el conflicto con una decisión impensable. Muy admirable el trabajo del autor en este sentido.
Martin takes us to the mental background of the protagonists; Dirk is a man who wanders in his mistakes, questioning the nature of the actions that evolve from his mind. We look at a sentimental portrait of this character, appealing to memory and nostalgia as a shield against discomfort. I was able to identify with him in some aspects: his way of looking at life and understanding love inspired me through reading. On the other hand there is that clash between incongruous cultures, and the deliberate fight against unconsciousness. And Gwen, that doubtful but strong girl, who seals the entire conflict with an unthinkable decision. The author's work in this regard is highly admirable.

Ciencia Ficción y romance danzan como el propio planeta que se aleja a la oscuridad. La trama es madura para el trepidante escenario en la que se plantea. Más que viajes intergalácticos y peleas astronómicas miramos el reflejo de una sociedad ambigua, terca y algo descabellada. La prosa es otro punto a favor: viajamos en un texto cuidadosamente detallado, donde la metáfora y la hipérbole crean un cumulo de imágenes y sensaciones. En algún punto el hilo de la premisa va a pasos de tortuga, pero, muy a pesar de la lentitud de algunos giros argumentales, Muerte de la Luz es capaz de cautivarnos de principio a fin.
Science Fiction and romance dance like the planet itself receding into darkness. The plot is ripe for the fast-paced scenario in which it arises. More than intergalactic trips and astronomical fights, we see the reflection of an ambiguous, stubborn and somewhat crazy society. The prose is another point in its favour: we travel through a carefully detailed text, where metaphor and hyperbole create a host of images and sensations. At some point the thread of the premise goes at a snail's pace, but, despite the slowness of some plot twists, Dying of the Light is capable of captivating us from start to finish.

Es una buena novela ¡Lo digo con toda seguridad! Es una agradable historia de ciencia ficción y romance, digna para los lectores aventureros. Se las recomiendo; encontraran una lectura fluida y un entorno lleno de emociones y ricos escenarios. Yo la empecé a leer los domingos y luego empecé a repetir las lecturas hasta tres veces por semana XD. Por algo George R. R Martin es catalogado como uno de los más fuertes del genero.
It's a good novel I say it with all certainty! It's an enjoyable sci-fi romance story worthy for adventurous readers. I recomend it to you; You will find a fluid reading and an environment full of emotions and rich scenarios. I started reading it on Sundays and then I started repeating the readings up to three times a week XD. For something George R. R Martin is listed as one of the strongest of the genre.
