REVIEW: UNA FURIA DE ALAS NEGRAS, Parte II SPN/ENG

• The Worlbuilding

Some people found the whole bird concept boring, but for me that was the most striking thing. The book basically instructs you in a very simple way the terms of falconry and some species of eagles and hawks. Also, I couldn't help but imagine a particular eagle in the novel just as the great harpy eagle because of certain descriptions.
 
Apart from that, the tension of a town disputed between two religious beliefs also made it interesting. It should be noted that the topic is not explored in depth nor are the leaders revealed, but, in my opinion, a good work does not have to give you all the information as if it were an encyclopedia. We still have to wait for more to be explained in the next books and it is a promise that is elucidated at the end of the book.

• Kylee as the protagonist and her journey for liberty  

I think she's the character you empathize with throughout the entire book. She's the sensible voice of the twins, deeply emotional about her family, but at the same time, without leaving rationality aside. She also achieves increasing complexity with the constant struggle to repress herself. Many factors influence her to decide this: family, groups of informants in the village, the people who wanted to direct her life; but even so, she manages to face the exposure of what she is, little by little. Thanks to Kylee (along with other characters) we can appreciate the universe.

• Jowyn as a secondary character and a mentor

I won't talk much about who he is or how he appears, but he joins our protagonists to support them. However, and given that some characters, such as Brysen, are part of the LGTBIQ+ community, I think Jowyn is the one who makes me think most of this. From his survival instinct, his growth to overcome the past and even his appearance, which is in my opinion super symbolic of his life story. He is completely natural, my favorite dialogues are his.

Considero que no fue algo hecho adrede por el autor, ya que él mismo en los agradecimientos comentó lo difícil que fue llevar a cabo la obra. Sin embargo, Brysen comete el error de llevar un crecimiento negativo en ser un malcriado. Y no se trata que la simpleza no pueda ser origen al antagonismo, pero entre más lo conoces, más parece carecer del sentido común básico que merita el contexto del libro. Creo que socava las ideas principales que destaqué con anterioridad. Además, tristemente, es encasillado en un personaje plano que solo desea salvar a su "pareja", dejando de segundo lugar su trasfondo familiar, quién era en la aldea y, mostrar desde otra perspectiva el escape a través de una relación unilateral.

• Dymian y la verosimilitud:

Dymian es la famosa pareja de Brysen, y el motivo por el cuál se desenvuelve todo el viaje de los héroes. Es muy predecible, pero lo que resta -10 en verosimilitud es que todo lo que hace en detrimento hacía Brysen es un hecho público y sabido que se ignora deliberadamente por el protagonista.

Otros aspectos destacables de la verosimilitud es el oportunismo exitoso de cada acción improvisada de Brysen. Y, aunque en el climax de la historia sí se logra ver sus desventajas, eso no pasa a lo largo del libro. Es algo que solo se menciona en el pasado, como algo marcado por lo que dictó su padre. Cosa que solo lo hace parecer una víctima y no el personaje sobreviviente que debería ser.

• Relación de gemelos

Esto creo que es lo más ¿incómodo? Porque si bien los hermanos discuten, pueden ser hirientes entre ellos y luego reconciliarse, la actitud de Brysen a lo largo de todo el libro lo vuelve un detonador más dentro de las razones para no soportarlo. Kylee también tiene un punto en desventaja aquí, ya que parece adoptar una posición muy maternal cuando se supone que son gemelos. Sin embargo, está justificado por algunos eventos en la historia.

• Brysen and his negative growth

The character that causes the most creeps is its own protagonist. 🤦‍♀
 
I consider that it was not something done on purpose by the author, since he himself commented in the acknowledgements how difficult it was to carry out the work. However, Brysen makes the mistake of carrying out a negative growth in being a spoiled brat. And it is not that simplicity cannot be the origin of antagonism, but the more you know him, the more he seems to lack the basic common sense that the context of the book deserves. I think it undermines the main ideas that I highlighted previously. In addition, sadly, he is pigeonholed into a flat character who only wants to save his "partner", leaving out of the frame his family background, who he was in the village, and kicking out the perspective of escape through a unilateral relationship (the real point into that "romance").

• Dymian and the verisimilitude:

Dymian is Brysen's famous partner, and the reason why the whole heroes' journey unfolds. He is very predictable, but what subtracts -10 in verisimilitude is that everything he does to the detriment of Brysen is a public and known fact that is deliberately ignored by the protagonist.
 
Other notable aspects of verisimilitude are the successful opportunism of each improvised action of Brysen. And, although in the climax of the story we can see his disadvantages, that does not happen throughout the book. It is something that is only mentioned in the past, as something marked by what his father dictated. Something that only makes him seem like a victim and not the surviving character that he should be.

• Twins relationship

I think this is the most awkward? Because while the brothers argue, can be hurtful to each other one day and then reconcile, Brysen's attitude throughout the book makes this one more trigger within the reasons not to put up with him. Kylee also has a disadvantage here, as she seems to adopt a very maternal position when they are supposed to be twins. However, it is justified by some events in the story.

A pesar de haber ponderado el libro con 3 estrellas, intentaré leer la segunda entrega: Un Asedio de Cielos Rojos, ya que creo (o al menos de dejó la impresión) de que Brysen no será una piedra en el camino de esta historia. Además, debo decir que los títulos de los libros en español me parecen geniales ✨

No suelo obligarme a leer libros, así que en mis redes sociales podrán saber sí lo abandoné o si continuaré dándole una oportunidad.

Despite having rated the book with 3 stars, I will try to read the second installment: Red Skies Falling, since I believe (or at least I was left with the impression) that Brysen will not be a stumbling block in the path of this story.
