BAJO EL SILENCIO DE LAS ESTRELLAS

Necesito el mar porque me enseña
escribió mi madre en la pared
y me dejó dormir sobre el agua
dulce de lágrimas destinadas al amanecer.
Cuando mi abuelo no regresaba
todos sabían que habitaba
en el mar de la tranquilidad
noche tras noche conversaba con la luna
la reprendía por no ser sol
sino apenas luz incierta.
Bajo el silencio de las estrellas
mi abuelo hablaba con los peces
la magia de mi abuela en su corazón
ambos eran hijos de una isla mayor
cruzaron las sabias aguas del caribe
para renacer en la isla de los pinos
pequeña isla con cimas de mármol
un suelo fértil para echar raíces
acariciada por la brisa marina
y la lealtad del mar.
Me encanta el mar decía mi madre
y en los veranos dormía en la playa
era una mujer sencilla y tierna
alimentada con peces y pinares
nunca penso en levitar hasta la luna
tenía el mar, la brisa y el horizonte.
Ella hizo mi piel de escamas invisibles
para alejarme de las luces del puerto
en las noches de cálidas tormentas
soy raíz sembrada en el oleaje
nieto de amores nocturnos
entre el navegante y las estrellas.

UNDER THE SILENCE OF THE STARS.

I need the sea because it teaches me
my mother wrote on the wall
and let me sleep on the water
sweet with tears destined for the dawn.
When my grandfather did not return
everyone knew that he lived
in the sea of tranquility
night after night he talked to the moon
he scolded her for not being the sun
but only uncertain light.
Under the silence of the stars
my grandfather talked to the fishes
my grandmother's magic in his heart
both were children of an older island
they crossed the wise waters of the Caribbean
to be reborn on the island of the pines
small island with marble tops
fertile soil to take root
caressed by the sea breeze
and the loyalty of the sea.
I love the sea my mother used to say
and in the summers she slept on the beach
she was a simple and tender woman
nourished with fish and pine trees
she never thought of levitating to the moon
she had the sea, the breeze and the horizon.
She made my skin of invisible scales
to keep me away from the harbor lights
in the nights of warm storms
I am a root sown in the swell
grandchild of nocturnal loves
between the navigator and the stars.
