RE: Just swanning around for the REFLECTION CONTEST - Round 57

I love swans. Magnificent birds. Lovely photos. That is a witch's hat, by the way.

Those photos also took me back to a riverside childhood holiday. There was a pair of swans that lived on the river and they'd often sail past as we picnicked and played in the water.

Yes a witch;s hat, I think it too. Yeah swans are amazing creatures, majestic and beautiful. I love watching these two especially once they have cygnets. They are very territorial and have a go at some dogs and people too 🤣🤣🤣

Riverside holidays as a child are great, I had a few of those😁

Is it my imagination or do swans not mate for life?

We did learn, on that holiday, not to antagonise them or to get too close.

You are right they do mate for life. Often a pair will take over a body of water and not let any other swans on it. That is why they run their children off in about February so that they can start the process all over again!

We have been wondering whether guineafowl are the same. Because we think it's the same pair each year. The hen has some very distinctive features.

A male and female guinea fowl are normally monogamous—which means that they pair with each other for life and mate with no other individuals.

So I think then it is the same pair you see each year 😁

Ah, you did the homework I was too lazy to do! Thank you!

Hehe my pleasure, I do like to do the odd spot of searching 😀
