entry reflections contest 22 titled: recent ramp reflections

the above photo is my entry. at first glance it appears to be a shadow but in reality it is an unedited monochrome reflection of a metal ramp from land to a floating dock in the harbor. the following images and text give a more complete depiction of the circumstances under which the photo was taken .

here is the ramp with its reflection in color

p1270930_edited.jpg
the stormy sky was rapidly changing yet there was almost no wind. since there was no traffic in this sheltered part of the inner harbor the water was surprisingly unusually smooth. from different angles the reflection of the sky on the water appeared vastly different. in this photo above the mirror like reflection shows the full drama occurring in sky while in the previous photo the water is translucent and the surface slightly reflective giving it a faded waxy shine revealing almost nothing of the celestial spectacle.

p1270924_edited.jpg
in this close-up of the ramp note both the rough edge of the ramp and the reflection of the sky on the water.

p1270919.jpg
here the ramp is partially visible. none of the above photos have been edited but the next ones have been.

p1270910_edited.jpg
the water is shallow and quite clear. at angles where the surface is less reflective and the sky more uniform gray the bottom of the harbor is visible but murky with algae.

p1270914_edited.jpg
zooming in on a section of the reflection the rough edge of the ramp becomes more apparent.

p1270915_edited.jpg
the previous image has been flipped and edited to monochrome. additionally contrast and clarity have been increased

p1270917_2_edited.jpg
and here the clarity has been further intensified. notice the thin white stripe highlighting the edge of the ramp at the bottom of the image. this is a typical effect when the clarity is increased significantly.

lastly this close-up is taken standing on the ramp looking down through it at the reflection of the sun as it is peering through the clouds. it is not a monochome shot but because the camera is pointed directly at the reflected sun the metal grid of the ramp is rendered a silhouette.

Though the post is all about the ramp shadow but I want talk about the photo of sky. Hehe. I can see a dancing man in the clouds.
Lol.
Best wishes for the contest

thanks so much but i am not seeing the dancing man. the photo is in fact the reflection of the sky on the water.

Oh my God! Is it a reflection. How come I missed reading this. It is cool

i just rewrote the caption to make it clear that the photo is a reflection and emphasizing the difference a change of angle of perception makes.

Really cool shots. I like the abstract nature of the reflections. The most mundane, unnoticed things offer great value if one pauses to notice. The cloud reflection is wild and in complete contrast to the water. Very interesting series and great post!

very beautiful monochrome image of the ramp and the view from different angles is excellent.

thanks so much. i was pleasantly surprised when i saw the image. i didn't expect it to be so interesting and striking.

Hi there, @eolianpariah they look pretty awesome for reflections good luck in the contest.

thanks so much. are you in this round?

Hi there, @eolianpariah am still looking to find some thing for this next round.

Beautiful photos! The first one, the cover of post, is my favourite

thanks a lot. i don't take many monochrome shots because i am not often happy with the result. so when i took that first photo i did not expect it to be so nice but i was very pleasantly surprised

Excellent job! You found some super groovvvyyy wavy shadows! Nice edits too. Good luck in the contest!

How have you been? @eolianpariah
