Lace carved out of wood - that's how I would describe this amazing exterior wall decoration, stained glass ceiling, cast iron staircase, unprecedented interior woodwork... all this creates an incredible beauty that, as you say yourself, is really completely measured and balanced and is not cluttered.
It seems downright unbelievable that once, so many centuries ago, people were able to create such things with their own hands. But the saddest thing is that modern people are probably the ones who are no longer capable of that. 😌
Do you, as a person who has been there, happen to know, dear @andestethic, if these knowledge and skills are completely forgotten in this region and these amazing craft techniques are no longer applied in construction and design? Or it's just the opposite - they are still applied in practice.

What you are trying to imply here , has always been my argument. The level of craftsmanship in those ages and how dedicated they were towards creating something so intricate was insane. In these times even if you wanted to create something similar you wouldn't be able to. Cause modern humans have just become lazy humans in my opinion. We are not ready to go to that extent. Having said that , there are craftsmen that you might who do this, but soon all of this art as you can call it will extinct like some living specie.
