The Villa I Designed Coming To Completion

Firstly I want to say such big thanks to everyone in this community for lovely comments and positive reaction to my last post. I'm so happy sharing my work here to other people in this industry. For today I would like to talk about an ongoing job I have that is nearing completion.

In Phuket it's quite common for home owners to invest in a property that is part of a small self-contained development. Often they are only about 10 - 15 villas on large plots of land within a secure gated community. The developers very often allow the new homeowner to radically change the design both interior and exterior as long as certain aspects of the overall community design style are followed - normally the roof shape, material and entrance. here is an example of a housing development master plan that I designed....

I had one client approach me asking for a complete redesign of the development property from scratch. I had to adhere to certain parameters but the developers approved all of my designs and although they were in charge of construction my client asked us to make sure our designs were implemented correctly.

This often creates issues because it's not my team doing the construction so I can't control them every step of the way, and I simply don't have time to monitor every minute they are working. Invariably mistakes are made and things need re-doing. Here are some final renders of my design of the villa, alongside the construction phases.

I designed a sala and covered walkway all from reclaimed teak. The construction crew had a pretty good carpentry team and I'm happy with their work. It looks very close to the renders I presented to the client and although it's not yet finished I think it's going to be just super!

I designed this textured wall that was to go in the outdoor BBQ area. I got the idea from a company in Bangkok that presented their portfolio of wall textures. A very specialised team had to come from Bangkok to do this. I think they did a great job and it looks just like my design renders.

The interior joinery and builtins were my teams responsibility. We created large bay windows in the guest suites and very nice built-in wardrobes in each bedroom. I visited often to make sure the design was followed correctly. Here's a render of the master bedroom and some pics of the construction process....

The colour palettes of this villa both interior and exterior are cool tones and warm wood. I used reclaimed teak for the floors and all the joinery plus the same wood for the outdoor sala, walkway and the roofing eaves. In the garage I chose volcanic stone for the floor and for the pool again natural stone which I think will look super once the water is in and the sun is on it.

I hope you like this quick post. I'm sorry no time to tell you more but I will update you all further when the job is done!

Wow, I am speechless, it already beautiful even though it is not 100% completed, I wish I can also have a villa like it. Greetings from the Philippines!

Ohh thank you so much. How is the design and architecture industry in Philippines? Its another place I would love to visit one day.

You're welcome (^_^) I think the design and architecture industry is also modernizing here, but that are also those that are very keen on preserving the old culture of design and architecture in our country.

So important to preserve older design and architectural styles. This is something I often struggle with here when my clients don't want to try and incorporate any traditional elements in to their new builds.

Hello @seancallow. I'm truly glad you've started to feel at home in this community and have already been engaging with some of our distinguished authors here. Because architecture and design are such diverse topics, it simply takes time and effort to fully immerse ourselves into the nitty-gritty of this industry.

Nevertheless, it's always a thrilling experience to see architectural projects, such as your featured masterpiece, in their development stages due to the interesting processes they showcase. I love the idea of a small gated residential subdivision because of the property's enhanced security, exclusivity, and luxury. That swimming pool area is absolutely gorgeous with its relaxing atmosphere - I could linger there forever. Despite being quite expensive, it's actually rewarding to construct high-quality residences for your valuable clients at the end of the day. Fantastic publication! 😊

Thank you so much @storiesoferne. I will try to post my work here as much as I can. Gated communities are very popular here in Phuket. It offers foreign residents an added measure of security. I often am approached to do the master planning for these kind of developments.

Wow looks like it is really coming together. You really have a dynamic life. Your posts are just great - very inspiring. So cool that you are very hands -on for every step. I would never live in a gated community but understand why people do - especially if they have family.

Hi..:) Yes it really is nearing completion and I love seeing the final details getting done. Sadly the owner is Russian and is having a hard time getting to Thailand now because of the situation. Feel sorry for him and his family as they are looking forward to a quiet life in Phuket.

Oh dear that is sad. I read on the Thai news this morning that many Russian and Ukrainian citizens are stuck in Thailand and that the Thai government is offering free visa extensions for those that cant leave. I guess for your client trying to get here it is a different issue.

Hello @seancallow. We are happy to serve you. Keep up the fantastic publications. Cheers! 😀

These designs look like homes for people with some serious wealth. If you are allowed to tell or have any idea what do you think the total cost of this villa was?
