Knowing about history is something that has attracted me since I was a child. I like to read and know about places, personalities and important historical facts. For my pleasure, lately I have been able to visit and know many museums in my city, and thus I have discovered passages of the history of Cuba that I did not know. I have also been able to explore and enjoy the architecture of buildings that are part of the historical and cultural heritage of my country. What attracts me most about museums is the way in which from my present, I can connect with the past through the relics that are preserved in them.
After this introduction, I guess it follows that today's post is about a museum. It is the Máximo Gómez Museum, located in the Quinta de los Molinos, which pays homage to that great Mambí General of the Liberation Army.
Máximo Gómez was one of the most respected, brave and beloved generals who fought for Cuba's independence from Spanish colonialism. Despite the fact that he was not born on the island, but in the Dominican Republic, Cubans consider him one of our own, and his memory and actions remain forever in Cuba's history.
In the Quinta de los Molinos where this museum is located we can enjoy abundant nature and beautiful gardens, this space full of greenery is one of the lungs of the city. In this site is located the old house of rest of the General Captains that governed in Cuba, which for some months was used as residence of the Liberator Army at the end of the war.
This place was completely restored. It is a very spacious two-story house, with high struts, large wooden windows and large balconies. On the first floor there is a lot of wooden furniture, armchairs, benches, sofas, it is very spacious and very cozy.
I was struck by the lighting that the place has, all with the natural light that enters through the windows and balconies combined with a cool and pleasant temperature. This day of my visit I could see some scaffolding, apparently they were painting the ceilings, and in some rooms they were still remodeling.
In this place, Leader Mambí stayed for several months when he entered Havana with his army, so there are several objects and personal documents that belonged to him, and they are still preserved. We can also see different photographs that tell us the history of the wars for the independence of Cuba, and to know the weapons and the uniform that the General Mambí used.
The upper floor of the building, where the main exhibition is located, has several rooms surrounded by large balconies and windows with exit and view to the terrace. The terrace is very spacious, bordering almost all the rooms, what I liked most is its orange tile floor that matches perfectly with the color of the roof tiles. Also, from here you can enjoy the great view of the garden in front of this house-museum.
At the back of the house I found a very beautiful patio surrounded by ornamental plants with a nice and simple fountain in its center.
I learned a lot on this visit, there is a lot to see and enjoy here besides the Máximo Gómez Museum. The whole place is very beautiful and nature is integrated all around, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and harmony. I left with the idea of returning again.

Beautiful museum, the furniture and the patio I love, they combine very well with the environment and abundant plants.
Greetings!
Thank you very much, that is a lovely place!
What I truly love about the place is the color combination. I am so inspired turning my home into that color. I've been wondering what goes really well with blue painted door and that museum has the ivory yellow-ish that makes the door stands out and accentuate the whole place. Anyway, awesome pictures too!
Jaja I'm glad my photos helped you discover the perfect color for your home. It really is a nice combination.
