The urban architecture is amazing. Due to the nature of my work, I often visit different cities with modern or old architecture of residential buildings. Imagine that you can live in a house that is a historical monument of architecture of the 70s. I want to show you a collection of residential buildings with stunning facades from the late 19th early 20th century.
The historic streets of many cities were shaped by artistic styles. Although probably the main inspirers of the appearance of houses are noble people of that time. Since not every "simple" person could afford to build a private house with several floors. For example, as the building in the photo above and below.
Now this red building is a post office and is rented by entrepreneurs. However, during the construction period, entrepreneurs not only built housing for themselves, but also for hire. In this way, you could earn good money. Then it was customary to build houses tightly to each other in 2-4 floors. Real estate is always a good investment. During the construction of such houses, ergonomics was important. The red color and ornamental stucco make this post office stand out from other façades.
Experienced Russian architects were often called upon to build these buildings. Each of these buildings was periodically destroyed and reconstructed to one degree or another. This was facilitated by military operations or the natural wear and tear of materials. But each of these houses is an architectural value with its own extraordinary history. We can say that each of these residential buildings deserves special attention. Separate post. But today I decided to show a total look
Although I have a desire to go deeper into the history of each of these beautiful houses. These walls can tell us a lot. Similar historical buildings can be seen in many cities of the former Russian empire. I like the fact that the authorities are making an effort to save these houses. Not only to preserve their appearance, but to maintain their condition in which people can continue to live there. I wonder what it's like to live in a historical value?
Not all of these houses have retained their former appearance. Some of them were lower or had a different purpose. Over time, to increase living space, two-story houses turned into three or even four-story houses. In my opinion, this only improved the appearance of these houses. Leaving two floors on the main street is not always a practical solution. In my opinion, this is the rare case when the expansion is beneficial to the appearance.
The architecture of residential buildings conveys the spirit of that era like nothing else. If you pay attention to the old houses, you can see fragments of the historical street of that time. Moreover, each house dates back to different dates of construction and different elements of the facades. That is, driving from the old part of the street to the modern one, you can get into an impromptu time machine. Architectural time machine. Art Nouveau style will be replaced by typical Stalinist classicism.
Would you prefer to live in such houses or do you prefer modern apartments?
All photos taken by me during my work trip. Thank you for your attention!

I love the colors of the structures that you shared with us. I hope they will last as long as they can so that the coming generations will enjoy them.
Thanks! They all look beautiful, but red beckons the eye. I really hope that they will retain their appearance for many years to come.
You're welcome (^_^)

I'm glad to be a part of your wonderful community and share interesting architecture :)
Hello, @frank1in. That's an incredibly stunning collection of buildings you've featured here. And what makes them even more interesting are your special opportunities during work to capture their photographic memories. If you were to ask me if I'd choose historical residences like these ones over modern apartments, I'd definitely prefer the former. Why? It would be like traveling back in time to physically experience heritage architecture and reliving the good old days, wouldn't it? Let me guess, are those exquisite buildings situated in Ukraine? Please correct me if I'm mistaken.
We're delighted to have you back in our beloved tribe. A warm welcome to the Architecture+Design Community. 😊
Thank you @storiesoferne for your warm welcome. I agree with your opinion. I travel among the CIS countries for work. Many of the buildings here are visually similar. This is our history.
