Sometimes, to see something interesting, we need to stray from the specified route. To see something interesting, it is not necessary to plan or search. Most often, we do not find something interesting, but it finds us. This happened on one of my business trips. The desire to shorten the path led me to a country road leading through many villages. All I wanted was to reduce the time spent on the road, but in the end everything turned out exactly the opposite. I have repeatedly stopped to look at sights hidden from the main road. Among them were many destroyed churches or small, decorated houses. But in one of the small villages, a two-story building caught my attention. I decided to study it.
At first glance, this abandoned building looks like a school or a mansion. However, not everything is as simple as it might seem at first glance. This building is surrounded by a high fence. But the main thing that distinguishes this building from the surrounding area is that it is located in a small village in which all the houses are one-story. An epic school for such an area, what do you think? I went into the territory to take some pictures and inspect the building carefully. At the very top of the main entrance are the numbers - 1951. It is obvious to assume that this is the date the building was built or put into operation. But what is this building?
How could such a structure appear in such a village? Is this a mansion or a school? These inner questions haunted me. I do not know why, but I continued to explore this unidentified building from all sides. It has two floors and an attic, it is worth assuming that the height is 7-9 meters. Then it became clear to me that at the moment work is underway to restore it. But that brings me to another question... Who would need to restore a building like this in a rundown village? Will it be a mansion or a school?
I did not attempt to get inside, as this is an illegal invasion of private property. Having bypassed the building from all sides and did not receive answers to my questions, I began to leave. However, right there, an elderly man came across in my way - a local resident and at the same time the watchman of this building. Thanks to him, I was able to satisfy my curiosity.
This building has a very interesting history. However, like the village in which it is located. In the distant 1900s, this village was a prosperous place. Due to the fact that the population increased, it was decided to build a school. Why do children need to travel a long distance to the city if they can study in their native village? So in 1951 a school appeared in a large village. However, over time, the collective farm closed, and the number of inhabitants began to decrease. The decision was made to close the school. But the building was bought by a rich man and converted into a private mansion. However, over time, the owners died and the school-mansion became empty again.
However, quite recently this school-mansion was bought by a charitable organization and with the financial support of caring people, a gradual restoration of the building began. I could not find out about specific goals, since the watchman did not fully possess the information. But apparently it will be a public space with a commercial bias. The building will no longer serve as either a school or a mansion (although this is not certain).
So, having accidentally turned off the main path in order to save time, I got into an interesting story of an interesting building. It turns out that even in small villages there are attractions that sooner or later can get a second and even a third life.
All photos taken by me during my work trip. Thank you for your attention!
Impressive storytelling @frank1in. Architectural ruins always tend to arouse our curiosity. Unless the building's exterior appearance is quite obvious, we can immediately guess its function. However, certain sites like that school/mansion, sometimes let us scratch our heads with confusion. Thanks to that local watchman, your questions were laid to rest. 😊
I was lucky to see this watchman, so I would have to keep these questions in my head :) I agree with you, often the appearance of the building is deceptive, and there is an interesting story behind it. Thank you for your attention and support @storiesoferne. Have a nice week!
