A Garden with a Beautiful Waterfall /Un Jardín con una Cascada Hermosa

One of the things I enjoy the most every time I go to visit one of my friend's country house is the beautiful artificial waterfall located in their huge backyard. This waterfall brings calm, beauty and wildlife to the place. So whenever I go to visit, I always sit near the waterfall and listen to the continuous sound of the water falling over the rocks. There is nothing more relaxing for me than doing this. That sound gives me a lot of serenity and makes me feel like I'm outdoors in the wild, in a forest, near a real waterfall. So, whenever the weather permits, I sit there for a long time to feed my senses and recharge my energy.

Una de las cosas que más disfruto cada vez que voy a visitar la casa de campo de uno de mis amigos es la hermosa cascada artificial situada en su enorme patio trasero. Esta cascada aporta calma, belleza y vida salvaje al lugar. Por eso, siempre que voy de visita, me siento cerca de la cascada y escucho el sonido continuo del agua cayendo sobre las rocas. No hay nada más relajante para mí que hacer esto. Ese sonido me da mucha serenidad y me hace sentir como si estuviera en la naturaleza, cerca de una verdadera cascada. Así que, siempre que el tiempo lo permite, me siento allí durante mucho tiempo para alimentar mis sentidos y recargar mi energía.

This waterfall and pond were built by my friend, who is in the construction business. The materials he used for this project were rocks of different sizes, slabs, lightweight liner, heavy-duty liner, a box with the filtration system that will be located at the lower part in the pond; and a waterfall box which will be located at upper part of the water fall; besides this, a water pump, a piping system and some cement were also needed.

Esta cascada y el estanque fueron construidos por mi amigo, quien trabaja en el campo de la construcción. Los materiales que utilizó para este proyecto fueron rocas de diferentes tamaños, losas, lona de recubrimiento ligera, lona de recubrimiento resistente, una caja con el sistema de filtración, que se ubicará para la parte inferior en el estanque; y una caja de cascada para la parte superior; además de la respectiva bomba de agua, sistema de tuberías y cemento.

My friend tells that for the construction of this water feature, he had to dig a pond, and had to create an elevation in the flat land to form the waterfall and stream. To create this elevation, he had to mound some soil.

Mi amigo cuenta que para la construcción de este elemento acuático, tuvo que cavar un estanque y tuvo que crear una elevación en el terreno para formar la cascada y el arroyo. Para crear esta elevación, tuvo que amontonar tierra

Once the pond was excavated and the mound of soil was made, my friend said he covered the soil with a kind of lightweight liner, the purpose of which is to keep dirt out of the water. He then covered the place with a heavy-duty liner. .

Una vez excavado el estanque inferior y hecho el montículo de tierra, cubrió el suelo con una lona ligera, cuya finalidad es mantener la suciedad fuera del agua. A continuación, cubrió el lugar con un revestimiento de alta resistencia.

Then he placed the box with the filtration system at one end of the pond. This filtration system consists of the skimmer, which skims the surface of the water to collect floating debris, as well as a suction point to deliver the water to the pump and enable filtration.In the photo below, this filtration system is the black box on the left side of the pond.

Luego colocó la caja con el sistema de filtración en un extremo del estanque. Este sistema de filtración consta del skimmer, que roza la superficie del agua para recoger los residuos flotantes, así como de un punto de succión para llevar el agua a la bomba y permitir la filtración. En la foto de abajo, este sistema de filtración es la caja de color negro que se ubica al lado izquierdo del estanque.

In this photo we can see how the system does its job of filtering the water.

En esta foto podemos ver cómo el sistema hace su trabajo de filtrado del agua.

At the top, the waterfall box was placed. This will be the device from where the water that feeds the waterfall and the stream will come out. Both, the skimmer and the waterfall boxes are connected by a piping system to the water pump.

En la parte superior, se colocó la caja de la cascada. Es desde este dispositivo de donde saldrá el agua que alimenta la cascada y el arroyo. Estas dos cajas, la caja filtradora , como la caja de la cascada están conectadas por un sistema de tuberías a la bomba.

Once all this system is installed, the rocks and slabs that make up the waterfall, the stream and the pond are placed. These give that feeling of naturalness. Some slabs are added to the waterfall to achieve the effect of sound and beauty that is sought in the waterfall. These stones are joined with concrete. Finally, the waterfall is embellished with plants and mulch.

Una vez instalado todo este sistema, se colocan las rocas y las losas que conforman la cascada, el arroyo y el estanque. Estas dan esa sensación de naturalidad. Se añaden algunas losas a la cascada para conseguir el efecto de sonido y belleza que se busca en la cascada. Estas piedras se unen con hormigón.

Finally, the waterfall is embellished with plants and mulch. For this purpose, some ornamental plants such as ferns and bamboo were used, as well as rocks and mulch.

Por último, la cascada se embellece con plantas y mantillo. Para ello, se utilizaron algunas plantas ornamentales como helechos y bambú, así como rocas y mantillo.
