Hello to all! New Year has arrived and the main New Year holidays are coming to an end. However, in Orthodoxy in our country, Christmas will come only on January 7th. Since I am a big lover of ancient architecture and places of worship, today I decided to tell you about an interesting Orthodox church. Surprisingly, the history of the Church of the Resurrection of the Word began back in 1667. On this place, which today is the center of Pinsk, the Dominican Church was located.
This building has a rich and suffering history. Over time, the Orthodox Church began to dominate and took the building from the Dominicans. In 1857, reconstruction was carried out and the church was named Saint Theodore Tyrone. However, during the Second World War, the church building was practically destroyed. However, the facade of the building has survived and historical data confirm this.
A photograph of their archives dating from the late 1940s.
After the Second World War, the conscientious authorities decided to finally destroy the church. The former building was blown up and completely demolished. Not a trace of his former greatness remained. A cinema was built on this site. Similar movie theaters were built in many cities of the country. They were built according to the same Stalinist project and did not differ from each other. By the way, that is why the main entrance to the Church of the Resurrection of the Word looks so unusual today.
Only in 1994, the building of the cinema was again transferred to the Orthodox Church. This is probably due to the collapse of the Soviet Union. In the 1990s, the auditorium of the former cinema became a prayer hall. In place of the screen, a passage was made to the closed hall. Everything returned to normal. However, despite the synergy between the cinema and the church, this symbiosis looks aesthetically pleasing. There is a sense of the connection between two eras and generations.
The administrative building is located next to the main church building. Currently, it performs indirect functions, but during the existence of the cinema, this building was the accounting department. The facade of the main entrance resembles the central entrance to the church.
But now let's get back to the architecture of the Church of the Resurrection of the Word. This building has gone through two eras and has been rebuilt like a phoenix many times. Each element of the facade has a specific meaning. If the elements located close to the roadway are part of the conscience of the era, then the interior of the building is the ancient church architecture.
Orthodox architecture is famous for its kupos. Each dome has a specific meaning. In the case of the "Church of the Resurrection" (as the locals call it), the main element is the central dome and hipped roofs.
But let's take a look inside. I attended church on January 2nd. It was a day of worship. The interior was filled with incense smoke. I took some pictures of the interior of the church, but maybe they will seem "smoky" to you. This is incense. According to religion, this smell drives away evil spirits ..
Local believers say that the Church of the Resurrection of the Word is a sacred place where there is a high probability that God will hear your prayers. The architecture of this church attracted me with its original architecture. After paying attention to the details and talking to the local parishioners, I learned that this place is unique. Old Russian architecture combined with Soviet "stamping" (clone buildings) looks impressive. This place has an interesting history. Everything started from the ancient temple and in the end everything returned to its primitive state.
I hope you find the architecture and history of Church of the Resurrection of the Word interesting. I love visiting ancient places of worship and learning about their history. Our world is an amazing place and each place is unique.
