Oceanman Venezuela: Una experiencia inolvidable [ESP/ENG]

Del 7 al 9 de este mes (noviembre) tuvo lugar en Pampatar, Isla de Margarita, Venezuela, un importante evento acuático: El circuito de aguas abiertas más grande del mundo, con presencia de 7 países.

Dios me dio la fortuna de poder llevar a mi hija y verla participar en esa desafiante competencia, que no estuvo fácil, porque la marea estaba intensa y el oleaje fuerte.

Viajamos el jueves 6, porque la entrega de los kits y el congresillo en el que se dan todas las indicaciones, era el viernes 7.

Cada instante de esta experiencia, fue un tesoro.

From the 7th to the 9th of this month (November), an important aquatic event took place in Pampatar, Margarita Island, Venezuela: the world's largest open water circuit, with seven countries participating.

God gave me the fortune of being able to take my daughter and watch her participate in this challenging competition, which was not easy because the tide was intense and the waves were strong.

We traveled on Thursday the 6th, because the kits were handed out and the briefing, where all the instructions were given, was on Friday the 7th.

Every moment of this experience was a treasure.

Ella se inscribió para la prueba "Sprint" de 2 kilómetros, que tendría lugar el día sábado a las 7 A.M. A las 5:30 se suponía que sería el calentamiento, pero el oleaje estaba muy fuerte, así que no entró al agua. A cambio pudimos apreciar el amanecer.

She signed up for the 2-kilometer "Sprint" race, which would take place on Saturday at 7 a.m. At 5:30 a.m., she was supposed to warm up, but the waves were too strong, so she didn't go into the water. Instead, we got to enjoy the sunrise.

Y llegó la hora en que todos los valientes participantes atravesaron la arena que los separaba del mar y se lanzaron al agua.

And then the moment arrived when all the brave participants crossed the sand separating them from the sea and plunged into the water.

Siendo honesta, pensé que las olas arrastrarían a mi flaquita, ella nunca había estado en una playa así, de hecho, aunque le gusta nadar en aguas abiertas, casi no tiene experiencia, ni siquiera es una chica que frecuente la playa, sin embargo me sorprendió y logró superar la fase inicial, con olas enormes.

To be honest, I thought the waves would sweep my skinny girl away. She had never been to a beach like this before. In fact, although she likes to swim in open water, she has almost no experience and isn't even a girl who frequents the beach. However, she surprised me and managed to get through the initial phase, with huge waves.

Cuando vi que no quedaba nadie en ese primer tramo, respiré, sabía que no sería un camino fácil, pero confiaba en que ella podría dominar lo agitado del agua.

Y así fue, le tomó 40 minutos hacer el recorrido y lo peor fue que yo pensé que tardaría más, por un momento me distraje en el reporte a su papá y no la vi cruzar la línea de meta. Luego ella me sorprendió por la espalda, mientras yo miraba hacia la playa esperando su llegada.

No pueden imaginar la alegría que sentí al escuchar su dulce voz diciendo: ¡Mami!

When I saw that no one was left in that first section, I breathed a sigh of relief. I knew it wouldn't be an easy race, but I was confident that she could handle the rough water.

And so it was. It took her 40 minutes to complete the course, and the worst part was that I thought it would take her longer. For a moment, I got distracted by the report to her dad and didn't see her cross the finish line. Then she surprised me from behind while I was looking toward the beach, waiting for her arrival.

You can't imagine the joy I felt when I heard her sweet voice saying, "Mommy!"

Ella me cuenta que no fue un recorrido fácil, que aún en lo profundo el agua estaba muy agitada y que muchas veces le costó respirar debido al agua, además, no podía ver las boyas, sin embargo, ella en su mente se decía: Sigue adelante.

Su papá y yo estamos muy orgullosos de ella, porque mostró fortaleza en medio del miedo que pudo sentir, puso todo de su parte y llegó a la meta, algo que es muy valioso, no por la posición que pudiera alcanzar, sino porque es una forma de fortalecer su carácter, de aprender a no rendirse ante las dificultades y de avanzar a pesar del miedo.

She tells me that it wasn't an easy race, that even in the deep water it was very rough and that she often had trouble breathing because of the water. What's more, she couldn't see the buoys, but she kept telling herself: Keep going.

Her dad and I are very proud of her because she showed strength in the face of fear, gave it her all, and reached the finish line. This is very valuable, not because of the position she achieved, but because it is a way to strengthen her character, learn not to give up in the face of difficulties, and move forward despite fear.
