He was last seen at the Stubai Glacier resort on August 9, but when he failed to arrive in Dundee on August 12, his family began a search.
Six weeks later, his rented car was found in the resort’s parking lot. For the next ten years, no one knew what had happened to him.
In 2003, fourteen years later, his body was finally discovered frozen in the ice of the Schaufelferner Glacier. He had severe injuries that matched being struck by heavy machinery.
His snowboard was also badly damaged, leading to the belief that he may have been accidentally run over by a snowcat on a foggy day buried in a shallow crevasse, where he stayed hidden until the glacier melted.
