The Get together and Iftari

in Daily Blog7 months ago

College life is the most memorable 2 years of a person’s life. The thing that makes it the most valuable is that we meet new people, get to know them, get close, spend the most beautiful times with them and suddenly it all comes to an end but in the end our hands are not left empty as our hearts are filled with joy and minds filled with sweet recollections. The same thing happened to me, my second year of college has come to an end and we are preparing for our final examinations that are due in a month. Some long and some new bonds all are close to being separated and we will be scattered all around the world engrossed in our own lives in the next few years. Our college was taking too long to hold a proper farewell event and thus, we took matters in our own hands and our class organized an iftar party in which every student of the class and some of the class teachers were invited. An iftar is the meal Muslims eat in the evening when they open their fasts so since it is currently the holy month of Ramadan and this might be our last gathering before everything changes, I was quite excited.
The dress code was very traditionally set to shalwar kameez, the arrival time was 5:30 and the location was our very own college. I was sick, so I was sleeping till 4:30. I got up and ironed my maroon kameez with white shalwar and took a shower and happily set off to my destination. I went to college on my bike and when I reached my college I saw everyone standing in the ground covered with flowers and trees. We stood there for some time and had a friendly talk with each other and did some regular chatting. After that the iftar time came close and everyone went to the dining area and sat down.

As soon as we heard the azan (Muslim call to prayer) we opened our fast with a cream filled date which was very delightful, jame shireen ( a sweet rose syrup) mixed water with lemon and small samosas also known as samosian. Then came the main course, it was mine and everyone's favorite dish: biryani (spicy dish made with rice and meat), spicy yogurt also known as raita and a few cold drinks. Then, for dessert, the frozen firni(sweet dish with rice and milk) was arranged.

Before dessert we prayed maghrib namaz. After getting done with eating we had a beautiful poetry and speech session arranged in which everyone participated and then we ended the day with a group photo and left for our houses with heavy hearts.
