I have discovered it! The difference between the biological sexes!

The Cranberry Conundrum!

Yes, I may sound a bit beyond high strung and more than slightly insane, but honestly, this discovery is ground breaking! Well, maybe bog flooding is a better descriptor, but I digress.

Yesterday, the ranch owners, some of their friends, and us got together for a little impromptu pizza party, complete with applesauce cake, and my contribution, Christmas punch. If I had known my Christmas punch recipe would have been such a revolutionary device I would have taken pictures, but alas, like most scientific discoveries of greatness, I wasn't prepared for such enlightenment when it happened.

My punch is a mixture of cranberry juice cocktail, pineapple juice, ginger ale, almond extract, sliced limes, and for fun and to keep things cold yet not diluting, frozen cranberries.

Now here's where the discovery happened. As I ladled festive cups full of the holiday drink into cute glasses I had no idea how the little tart frozen garnishes would foil the male-folk so. The first hint that something was in the ether was when one of the guys emitted a grunt and said, "Those little cranberries are tart."

"Well, they serve a function, both chilling and garnishing," I replied with a smile, as I figured these are grown middle age and older dudes, surely they had had punch with such things in it before.

The next grunt came from across the room, "Whew, those are tart!" exclaimed another husband. Now all the ladies present started laughing, as not a single one of us had actually eaten a cranberry, because you know, we knew what they were there for.

It was then that the words were uttered, "Well, they are in there, I am going to eat them."

Much laughter was emitted, and continued, as the men kept eating the cranberries even though they knew that they were tart, that they were a garnish, etc.

Then, the defining moment of the discovery happened, one of the friend's adult kids called to let their parents know they had finished some work on their house for them. I, being a jovial sort, yelled, "Cranberries!" It was then that the cranberries and their existence in the punch and how it caused a scene with the men-folk was relayed.

Their son then spouted,

"If it's in there, I'm gonna eat it."

My abs hurt. A hobbit can only handle so much laughing.

Truly though, who knew such a thing. Especially that floating frozen cranberries present in a Christmas punch was such a good indicator of male and female behavioral trait divergence.

So, not only did I have a ton of fun with awesome people yesterday, I learned something.

Oh yes, and Cranberry Christmas Punch is always gonna be on the menu this time of year. I mean, it tastes awesome, but the entertainment value puts it a level above a festive drink addition to any party.
