The Abandoned Cat Family

It happened last week early in the morning just after sunrise. My daughter woke up to the sounds of hustle and bustle right outside her window. If you look out from there you’ll see a shaded nook area that is quiet, private and birds like to nest there high above.

She saw a mother cat with her three kittens trying to find a spot to nestle. Once settled, the mother starts nursing them and my daughter falls instantly in love. She immediately asks me if we can feed them and provide them water.

Here are two quick side stories before moving on…

My story - I’ve never gotten along with cats. Or let’s just say I’ve always had a distrust in them from a young age after watching the movie “Cat’s Eye” (don’t judge me 😒). I literally thought they could suck in my breathe while I was sleeping (of course I now know this isn’t true) and I felt they were one of the sneakiest creatures amongst us.

My husband’s story - He grew up in a home where there was always at least one stray cat living with them. His sister would always find them and bring them home to nurture. Together her and her mom made their home a shelter to any animal that needed it. Now in is adult life he does not want any pets after sharing his house with so many over the years. 😅

So why the side stories and what does it all mean?

Together these stories equal a no pet zone in our household, especially cats (so sorry cat lovers and please no hard feelings towards us, it’s just the way it is). I actually tried to vouch for the kids to at least get a puppy but that didn’t happen either. I had a dog myself at one point and wouldn’t mind having another.

Anyways, back to the original story. A lot was going through my head when she asked me that question. The first thought was if we feed them they will never leave and always expect more. Another thought was we don’t know where they come from nor where they’ve been. That led to the next thought of we don’t know if it’s safe to be around them (disease wise).

Despite, there was one thing that overpowered them all and it was from a mother’s view. When I looked out that window and saw the mother cat feeding her babies and how frail she was, there was no way I was going to object to her request. I may not be a cat lover but I am also not a heartless human being.

I literally got emotional and it felt as if I were going to cry for that family. I just imagined how tough it must be for a single mom in the wild trying to survive as well as taking care of three babies.

We immediately brought out some water and food from our pantry. My daughter also found a box and put newspapers in it for them to rest in.

As we were setting things up we noticed the mother going around to each of us and rubbing against our legs. She was purring and desperately wanting a rub. I did make the kids put on some gloves before rubbing her just in case (I admit I get paranoid with roaming animals. You just never know what they might have 🙅🏽‍♀️.)

Later on we found out through our neighbor that this cat was not stray but most likely abandoned. I asked her how would she know that and she explained you can always tell by the way a cat acts. A stray cat wouldn’t be so sweet and friendly as this one and the way she rubs against us and begs to be touched is a for sure sign she once had a home. 🥺☹️

Now you know where the title got it’s name.

When we came outside the kittens scattered and found hiding spots. You can tell they were terrified and must have not been born yet when their mother had a home.

One stayed close to a toy and behind the concrete patio of our neighbor’s home.

Another came out a little but hid behind the box my daughter prepared.

Notice these two are twins? We couldn’t tell them apart. They are the cutest! Okay, yes I’m sure you also noticed the soft spot that was growing inside during all of this. 🥹

The third kitten was dark gray which was the color of his mother’s tail. I thought it was so adorable how they each had something of their mother’s. This one was the most timid and the only way we could get him to come back over was through food bribes lol.

He didn’t like the canned meat but it did get him to walk back to the nook area to see what his family was up to.

After awhile, the twin that was hiding by the box came forward to observe the water.

She was too busy keeping an eye on us to focus on it and didn’t budge. It wasn’t until after she talked it over with her mom to make sure it was safe…

that she finally gave it a go.

Meanwhile, her twin was also slowly making her way back over. We saw that we weren’t the only ones taking care of the cats. Our neighbor had bowls of food and milk put out for them too. ☺️

We noticed the mother cat was only nibbling on the meat and the kittens barely touched it. My daughter ran back into the house to find a can of tuna as we knew they would like that better.

As was so, the mother immediately started chowing down as soon as the can was placed in front of her.

The kids were so excited to see her eat well. I admit it was a good feeling knowing this nursing mother was eating. She needs enough energy to take care of those babies.

The kittens slowly began to gather around and move in towards the can to join her.

At one point they all tried to eat at the same time but of course that didn’t work 😂. Thankfully we had more cans of tuna to go around.

We noticed the twins stuck real close together and played quite a bit. It was hard to walk away because they were just so adorable.

The gray cat tended to stick by himself and explore on his own. He was very playful as well though. We saw him playing with his mother’s face as well as disturbing one of his siblings while they were nursing, demanding some play time lol.

He was also very curious of the box.

Later on that day my daughter looked out the window and saw the kittens resting in there.

It was such an eventful day. We continued feeding them for the next couple of days until my neighbor decided to take them in to care for them. They don’t plan on keeping them but are looking for someone to take them home as pets.

It was a bitter sweet moment because my daughter became attached to them and she even accidentally called them “our cats”. She was enjoying keeping an eye on them right from her room and taking care of them each day. She has a peace of mind knowing they will possibly get to have a loving home and belong to a family that will take care of them.

We hope the best for this family and that the mother continues to stay strong for her little ones. We even hope that they will be able to stay together but are aware that might not be the case.

Aww I'm very touched by this publication, here is an owner of 5 cats currently hahaha. Your daughter reminded me of my younger sister, who was in charge of adopting each of the cats that now live here. These are so beautiful, impossible not to fall in love with it. And I just wanted to say the same thing your neighbor said: a stray cat is usually cantankerous, they don't approach people so friendly, they're usually skittish so it's sure that she had a family before... And that bothers me so much, because in Instead of spaying cats before they have kittens, they do this to them and then discard them with babies and everything... It really annoys me when people do this. As soon as I find out that someone has a cat, my question is "and have you sterilized it yet?" 😅 Cats are beautiful, but it is better to avoid breeding so there is no overpopulation.

I hope that all these kittens get a good home with responsible people who take care of their needs and give them a lot of love. Thanks for posting your day on this Daily Blog, Crosheille, and for all your work guiding new people into this community. I really appreciate it ❤️.

Oh my gosh wow!! Laura you have 5 cats 😲?!! I had no idea you were a cat lover.

Cats are beautiful, but it is better to avoid breeding so there is no overpopulation.

It is very sad to see. I wish more people would do this to avoid having to throw cats and their family’s out. It was really sad seeing them outside and wandering looking for food. 🙁

I can totally understand your frustration. Imagine me, not really dealing with cats and about to cry so I can only imagine the emotions of a cat lover. I hope they find a good home too!

Oh for sure! It’s good to see people posting here regularly ~ 😉

I'm not a cat person and if anyone finds out I loved this cat article it's all your fault!

Hahaha hilarious!! Well maybe I should "hide" your comment to keep this secret safe. 😂

Thanks for visiting!!

Awwww what an adorable non fiction story 🥰❤️ I was smiling reading this and who doesn't love kittens when they are being so adorable most of the times.

Well, I'm with you on the no cats in the house 😂 I have my own story why it is so for me too just like you and your husband... I must say your husband's story is a very funny one 😅

Twin kittens? Cute! But I love the timid dark gray cat more 🥰
Well, I think you should get an adorable puppy for your daughter for the compensation 😅😂

I'm so glad my story made you smile. 😊

Hahaha yes his story and reason for not wanting cats is pretty funny. Too bad for the kids though lol. They told me they will have lots of animals when they get their own homes and families. I am a bit nervous to visit their homes now. 😬👀😅

Thanks so much for stopping by ~

Hahaha don't be nervous! It will be all cutey and awesome 😅 this is just me trying to make you feel better... Try to act into it! 🤭

🤣🤣🤣

Yeah!!! 😅

I may not be a cat lover but I am also not a heartless human being

That is the story 😇

☺️☺️☺️

Thank you so much for the tip!!

Obviously, your daughter loves the 🐈 cat 🤩 and may have wished for them to be kept in your house but then "no cat in the house " lolz
My family once had a cat as a pet but I hated it with a passion. I don't just like a cat especially when it rubs its body on my legs🤣🤣. One day, when my parents were away from the house, I pursue the cat out of the house and a car hit it and it died🙈. I was happy and scared at the same time, hahaha but then, my dad was not too harsh with my action because I have pleaded with them many times to throw it away due to the way it scares me away..lol

Now that I have my kids, they have been requesting a puppy but I am still processing the information 🤩

Oh yea, she definitely wanted us to take in the whole cat family. 😳😬🫣

Oh wow, you must have really wanted that cat gone. That's how I felt about my mother in law's cat when we lived with her for two years. I thought about taking it outside far away and telling her it ran away and got lost 🫢...but I didn't lol.

Now a puppy I could do. I wonder what your answer will be. 👀😄

Hahaha
Well, for the puppy..... I am still checking a lot of things but then, even if I will give in to their request, I will ensure not to keep it once it matures into a dog 🤣🤣🤣

Dog is scary to me too,🙈

Hahaha! That might be harder than it sounds. You might really fall for that puppy and can’t imagine giving him up when he’s big. 😄🤭

Really...that's true 🤩🤩🤩
Then, no puppyyyyyyyy!!!!!!

Uh oh! I didn’t mean to make you decide no puppy. 😳🫣😬

I just know how tough it is to resist a puppy you get to know. 😅

Looove them! So nice that you took care of them in a moment that they needed it so much :)
I am definitely a dog person, but I do have great respect for these incredible creatures and I like having them around! Such a sweet post @crosheille!

Aren't they so lovable?! 🥰

Thank you. I just couldn't turn my back on this mother and her babies.

I am definitely a dog person too. Thanks so much for the visit ~

I'm not a big fan of keeping pets too especially cats but reading through this, I really felt for the cats too I'm sure I would have wanted to be of help too.

They really look so adorable and those eyes are so cute too. I'm so glad someone decided to take them in and help them look for a new home.

Thank you so much for making me love cats 🤭.

Lol! It's hard to resist the cuteness huh? Those blue eyes sunk me in too hahaha! 😂

We just hope they find a good loving home. Thanks for your comment ~

Yeah they are just too cute to resist 😂.

I hope so too.

It's my pleasure leaving a comment 🤗.

Nice photograph

Thank you!

I like to take care of cats and teach this to the young ones. Giving water it is considered a beautiful behavior that a little child acquires.

It's good you like to take care of cats because from what I've seen there are so many of them without a home :(

What do you think of the stray animals that roam the streets? They pose a threat to people and they are also damaged in cold moments.

Honestly I have never approached or tried to pet a stray animal that was roaming the streets. I've never been the one to take animals in but if they are close to my home as these cats were, then I would most likely help them as much as I can.

In my country we believe that cats are possessed. We are too religious. But I must confess that I love those blue eyes.

I so laughed out loud when I first read your comment but then realize you were being serious. I didn't realize that was the belief there.

I think it's the blue eyes that got me. I couldn't resist all this cuteness.

I so laughed out loud when I first read your comment but then realize you were being serious. I didn't realize that was the belief there.

Yea I know it is funny but that's the unbelievable truth. We are just too spiritual and it sucks.

how beautiful it is, kitten. I love these furries♥️🐾🐈

I always love cat (even when i was a kid it was a big NO for me), i know how did you feel when you saw them @crosheille.. and i hope you could have them as your pets :).. i had lost three kittens already and now i had 2 others at home while other 3 cats like to come to our place to ask for food :)

Oh no three lost kittens? 🥺

Yes, I know we can’t keep them as pets but they are now being taken care of while they await a new permanent home. 😊

Yes, one was crashed by a truck the other 2 were sick so hard so they passed away :'.
Hopefully they could find a new permanent house soon

Heart melting! Yet I would never choose to have cats. I respect what they are, but my main experience of them is they live their own lives and you are only in it if they have a use for you. My aunt's cat would snuggle on your lap for fuss and a sleep, then suddenly turn on you and claw you when she was ready to leave. My grandmother's Tom cat used to turn up now and again to have his fur unmatted, then be off prowling and fighting again. Then my parents took a stray in one time, who only ever came to us for excitement trips to the vet. As an adult I have encountered a few nice cats, but I think my part experiences have put me off them.

Here in Australia we get feral cats that you don't want to go near. They can get huge and are pretty solid built creatures. I once tried to rescue a kitten off the highway and got teeth sunk into me for my troubles. Feral cats also kill a lot of small native animals here so cats as a whole aren't always looked upon favourably and some people will kill ones that are roaming. For that reason I feel that owners should keep them on their property, for the cat's sake and for the wildlife's sake.
