Starting yesterday after the opening of the Models of the United Nations, we were dropped into the diplomatic arena. It was a tough wake-up call. The world of diplomacy is a dog-eat-dog dynamic.

We had some hard Moments where we felt that other delegations we're better prepared or at least better organized to plan alliances to neutralize other speakers.

Even though I personally did well, some of my friends felt very demoralized.
Luckily, my mom came today (after riding a bus all night) to give me moral support and take care of any logistics emergency.

I feel so much better knowing she is here.
My dad was busy today and could not be with us.

I met some great delegates from other schools and cities and we tried to work out proposals together.

I had a couple of good interventions and my proposal did not face oppositions, but things got complicated later.

In this debates, even among people who represent your own interests there might be alliances based on particular interests and at the end the group voted for somebody else to defend the plan I had drafted.

I felt very bad, but we had to move on and be diplomatic.

Some of my friends from my city had better luck and will defend proposals tomorrow.

It was a tough day for everyone, but we learned a lot about the complexities of polítics and diplomacy.

I still think that if we represent the future of international relationships we must find ways to honor universal principles for the good of humanity. Some of us were assigned roles to play, causes to defend (even if we did not fully agree or sympathize with those causes), but even in that role-playing, I think we can become aware of what is right and what is wrong in our world.

The event ends tomorrow. I know we're did not get as far as we expected, but we did our best.
