Why Consistency Matters More Than Big Wins

in The Pub7 days ago

Over time, with the evolution of current pop culture and social media, people are increasingly drawn to the big wins. The extravagant win brings a crowd of people coming to see the win. It is good that you have people watching and you have this big win, but it is about the consistency that people have not seen when nobody was watching.

The consistency that comes with it is what makes the big wins may be unpleasant at first. It is like carrying out your daily routine. Having to go for the training even when it is not rosy about it. Let me break it down in a way that I can relate to easily. I am a chess player, and there is a point where you are actively playing tournaments, from one tournament to another. The sweetest part about these tournaments is when you get to win the first one, and you get accolades from your fellow chess players. Everybody is saying congratulations, handshake from left to right, and center. You are the reigning chess player, and it feels pretty good. Trust that attention is lovely, but what they do not see is the consistency.

I remember when I won the national under-16 tournament, and it felt so good. People looked at me like a champion, and even when I won the best player in Ibile games 2015, which brought about my popular interview. It is marvelous, and I mean the attention I was getting. But what people were not seeing at that time was the consistency I had put into chess. The unhealthy number of times that I played chess on my phone when I was at home, my parents were not so happy about it. The consistent training that chess requires is necessary before you can improve. There is a way I like to describe chess as a jealous lover that will always require your attention, but you can get better at the relationship you both share.

Most books I have read, especially the ones on habit, changing habits, atomic habits, or the ones about self-development, always boil down to this same theory. You need to be consistent with what it is you want to get better at. You can wake up all of a sudden, and you are an all-star player you want you wish to improve in. It takes time and consistent practice, and that is the way I see it. Good things take time to develop, and we should cherish progress more than perfection.

It is more about what you want for yourself and sticking to it. All these self-help books will talk about the same thing about improvement on yourself. It all boils down to being consistent. Self-affirmation does not come from telling yourself words of affirmation in the mirror alone. It comes from giving the world unrefutable proof that you ar who you say you are through your actions, at least that is how Alex Hormozi puts it. Action will also triumph over words. People would not see the effort you put in every day by showing up, but that is the secret, there will be when thereare big wins that come in. Do not get carried away by this, rather be more locked into your consistency and over time you will see that is what natters more than the big wins.

I like that you explained this in simple terms. Also, I didn't know you are such a chess champion:) Congratulations on all the past and future wins.

That being said, consistency yields results in he long run but it is one habit a lot of people struggle to keep up with. I do not even want to begin listing some things I chose to be consistent with but ended up with about 90-95% level of consistency.

At the end of the day, it all balls down to the individual and the amount of value they place on the "things" they want to be consistent with.

As usual, this was a good read✨

This is really impactful.
In a world where everyone are just focused on the results. No one cares about how committed you are to a thing.

Without results, your efforts (consistency) looks lazy to some persons.
They refuse to see the sacrifices you've made just to be there

What a honest take....

An it's true, the world we find ourselves today is one where people forget the efforts that led to a win and only celebrate the great outcome. They forgot that the effort put into it and the consistency is what really builds whatever they are now celebrating.

Thanks for sharing.
