My 2025

in The Pub3 days ago

It's the last day of the year and I thought I would make a note of what my year was like in 2025. Well, a snippet of it as I can't write down everything. At this point I'm not sure who I am making the note for exactly. Myself? Or you, who is reading this post? Anyway, it'll be here on the blockchain, so I can read it next year, to see how I've done compared to the previous year.

Last year I was thinking of journaling each month as the year progresses, but if you think a bit deeper, it's not such a good idea. I mean it's good to write things down, so you have a draft to work with at the end of the year, but it can also influence you, in sense of doing things just to have something to post about and I don't want that. When you do things just to show off, or to look good in the eyes of others (so you think, or hope), that means you're walking the wrong path and I don't want that. Anyway, let's see what I've been up to this year.

Neighbors

This is not a topic I talk about at all and not many know, but I have been struggling a lot in the past 3 or 4 years, due to the neighbors. The apartment beneath me has been rented out to some medical students and unfortunately, it turns out they were raised outside civilization and don't know how to behave in a shared building. Slamming doors, using the washing machine around midnight, peeing like you hear the Niagara waterfall are just a few things that have been making my life a living hell. I've tried to talk to them and to the flat owner as well, but my complaints have fallen on deaf ears. No one cares.

This year I think the guy who stayed (one left) learnt some manners and he at least is not using the washing machine so late, doors are handled with a bit more care, but he still can't pee in a civilized manner. It's not my fault walls are not as thick as these noise created by this a**hole would require to be, and even so, walls are way more massive than in flats in the other parts of the city.

This is the smallest problem though as my next door neighbor is a much heavier case and we have needed the help of the police to get things sorted to some extent. We've been struggling for 3 or 4 years, to make him understand that storing garbage in the apartment is not what anyone should do. You would be shocked to know what we've been through and what has been done to finally get rid of the horrible dead body smell that has been making our life a living hell. Lucky us, the case has been handled by an exceptional person, who actually cares. This is far from over, but at least we can open the windows and get some fresh air, without being suffocated by the horrible smell. Unfortunately the law is protecting him, not us.

Living conditions

Some things happen in life you never think of, or expect, so you just have to deal with them.

That's how in April I think, I discovered that I had ants in my kitchen cabinet, which is shocking to say the least as I live on the 4th floor. It took me a week to get rid of them and was lucky as I know people who had to break down all the kitchen tiles as the ants made entire tunnels beneath the tiles and they could not reach them with anything. Nightmare? That's an understatement, so I can consider myself lucky for discovering them early and getting the problem solved in one week.

Then right before Easter, a water pipe burst in the bathroom and again, lucky me, I was able to be there in less than a minute and stop flooding the whole building from top to bottom. Thinking back, I don't even know if I can understand how lucky I was, to be home and stop a huge catastrophe without any damage at all.

Another big thing that I've been planning to do for years is getting air conditioning in all the rooms as summers are getting terribly hot here and instead of a week or two of temperatures between 35C and 40C, we're getting 2 months now, or more. During this period all you can do is try to survive, which can't be considered living and I'm done! I am done! I want to enjoy life, I want to be able to sleep at night, I want to be productive and continue living a normal life, so now I can. It's a good investment, no matter how you look at it and much needed these days.

On a professional level

This is the toughest to measure, but I made good progress this year. It's the first full year working with a trading partner and I can assure you, it's true what they say about this matter. Working alone is cool to some extent, but having a second opinion, someone to debate about the markets on a daily bases can help you a lot. With more discipline and good time management, I can have all the knowledge and experience turned into more profit next year.

Health

This is a topic that has been in my year end or year planning posts and unfortunately, or better yet, shame on me, I've never took it seriously enough to change anything. Till this fall.

Finally I had enough and get to a point mentally (yes, that's where everything is decided), where I said enough is enough and started my diet and lifestyle change on the 9th of November, 2025. Today I can proudly say I've achieved 35% of my goal and instead of starting the year with empty words (New Year resolutions, which I hate so much and never have one) and false promises you break right away, I'm continuing what I've started and enjoying the health benefits of my achievement. Trust me, feeling way better can be really motivating to continue what you've started.

Lifestyle

This year I started selling what I don't use or need anymore. This has been a task I've been postponing for years as somehow it has never been the right time to do it. Big mistake honestly as at some point it starts to affect your living conditions and restricts your living space too, which can have a negative effect on your mood.

I'm good at this, always have been, so this year I made the most of it, sold a bunch of things I don't need anymore and I'm planning to keep things in check in the future, by not letting things I don't need piling up. We live in a digital era, where markets have moved online, we have tools and places to facilitate supply and demand meet, you can sell everything from the comfort of your home, so why wouldn't you do it then?

This maybe seems like a small thing, but if you think deeper, you can see how many things we're just pushing aside every single day, instead of dealing with them in time. Getting rid of so much stuff I don't need and getting more storage space made me handle things in other areas more efficiently and this is just the beginning.

Soon we're going to write 2026, there are only a couple of hours left, not even a full day. I see I already wrote a short novel here, instead of a post and I could not even cover everything, so I'm going to stop here.

I'd like to say thank you for being with me here on Hive in 2025, wish you a Happy New Year and all the best in the New Year. Let's make 2026 the best! See you next year :)

I feel your pain about the neighbours. I have been there and I have also been a caretaker for a high rise complex. The things I dealt with were mind blowing.

I certainly don't want those medical students to work on me ever haha.

Happy new year.

It's shocking what people are capable of and as I see, it's the same everywhere, without exception.

I certainly don't want those medical students to work on me ever haha.

You and me both! Imagine how they are treating patients when they can't even respect themselves.

Happy new year to you too.

Neighborhood problems, it's typical with apartments sadly, my sister in law had problems too, parties at night, people making noises all day etc... Unfortunately alone houses are crazy expensive

Ants, we had that too on 2 floor, killed them with the poison houses

Happy new year!

These fortunately are not partying but there are the other problems.

Moving to another place is also a lottery as even if you move to a house, you can get a crazy neighbor as so many times happens.

Looks like ants are everywhere 😄

Happy new year to you too!

Well happy new year, I guess it can't get any worse....unless the students start having wild loud orgies every night, in which case if it were me I would hammer on their door and tell them to shut the fuck up...or invite me in 🤣

But seriously I hope 26 is a better year.

The thing is, if the throw a party, I can call the police and they get fined. No, hell no, I'm not going to party with them 😄

Let's hope things get better next year.

fingers crossed

Reading about your neighbors I felt myself really lucky! People who live close to me are quiet and the walls of my apartment are very large (it's an ancient building ^_^ ). I wish your neighbors will become more civil in the new year. ❤️
And, like you, I also sold bunch of things (a lot of old books and other things) I don't need anymore thanks the app called Vinted and I used the money I earned there to buy (there) what I needed. Great!
I wish all the best, dear @erikah ! ❤️

You're really lucky indeed. It wasn't always like this, but people pass away, flats are sold and you don't control who's moving in.

I'm also using Vinted to sell my things 😄. I love it as it's a good platform. It's present in most European countries I think.

Thank you so much for the comments and nice wishes. I wish you the same, happy new year and all the best as well my dear friend! 😘 💚

It is no small thing because what you have described takes time, effort, determination, perseverance, will and above all a lot of work, in all areas. The issue of the neighbours... as I understand you, something always happens with some of them, they don't know what a good coexistence is like or they think they are alone in this world. But everything in your case, and in mine too, have been improvements and progress, so I hope that this new year will bring peace of mind and many successes! Happy New Year!🤗🎊

It's a big issue when you think just because you're not a permanent inhabitant, you can do whatever you want. I hope they can live what we had to live through soon, to see what it means.

Thanks for the nice wishes @avdesing. Happy new year to you too and all the best. Let's make 2026 better than 2025.

Let's work to make it a great year for all of us! A big hug!🤗

A big hug to you too and let's do it! 🤗

I hope that you will have a good New Year :)
We have also been tormented at the last house where we stayed, and our decision to just get out was the best thing that we did to keep our sanity. Now we live in a house of peace with great neighbors.

Happy new year to you too Zack!

Looks like people are the same everywhere. Shame they can't control themselves and don't care about others.

Thank you Erikah :)

One can never change hearts of stone, and best thing to do is to walk away from it.
Argumentative souls are ten a penny nowadays.

Sorry to hear about neighbor issues. Had them oursleves before and it sucks. Luckily we don't have them now where we live. Hope the situation gets better soon for you. Then the ants, dealt with those suckers before as well. They are hard to get rid of sometimes. Glad you got the busted water pipe fixed, that sucks and can cause lots of damage sometimes. Woo, defintely need air condtioning in the summer here. Can't imagine not having it with my breathing challenges.

Happy New Year and hope the best for you and yours.

I think at some point everyone had part of such neighbors, one way or another, unfortunately. Judging from the comments I received, it seems people are the same everywhere. I could only get rid of them by moving, but this is one of the best areas of the city, so I don't want to move.

Happy new year to you too @coinjoe and no health issues if possible.

Having a balance in life is important which you can control unlike the neighbors who just need a good talking to or a few slaps. Happy New Year.

Yes, balance is the keyword, remember? 😂

unlike the neighbors who just need a good talking to or a few slaps.

I tried the talking part, didn't work, so I suppose slaps are coming. I need a good size of baseball bat and I'm ready!

Happy new year to you too! 🥂
