The Chinese Government Banning List of "Bad Karaoke Songs"

in Archon3 years ago

If you call the nation of China home and your idea of a good time is grabbing a mic and singing your favorite karaoke song, you may be in for a surprise soon when you go to pick your song number out of the book.

China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism will be creating a blacklist of what they deem as "bad" karaoke songs and rules so that singers will sing in order to promote the government's values. Songs that will be included on the blacklist are ones that “tarnish national honor and interests” or “promote obscenity, gambling, violence, and drug-related criminal activity.”

You can't sing that.

No specific titles have been named yet, but China has previously banned songs deemed obscene, including “I Love Taiwanese Girls” by Taiwanese rapper MC HotDog and “Don’t Want to Go to School” by mainland Chinese hip-hop duo X.J.K.

In general, Chinese social media users did not seem happy.

Hahahahaha 😂😂
Damn, this is funny. Crazy shit. Even though it is clearly to promote some good stuff and discountenance bad stuffs, this type of imposition amounts to tyranny.
