Since I arrived in the province of San Juan a month ago, I have not stopped doing physical activity: being here represents a great opportunity for me and it is the first time I have made such a long trip, so I want to take advantage of every minute. During all this time I took advantage of my free time to visit several mountains and go on long treks, even breaking my own record by walking more than 20 km. But as if this were not enough for my legs, I also found a bicycle rental service in the valley, which I did not hesitate to go to because I would never refuse to continue walking 😅.

Desde que llegué a la provincia de San Juan hace un mes que no paro de hacer actividad física: estar acá representa una gran oportunidad para mí y es la primera vez que hago un viaje tan largo así que quiero aprovechar cada minuto. En todo este tiempo aproveché mi tiempo libre para ir a visitar varias montañas y hacer largos trekkings, incluso rompiendo mi propio record haciendo una caminata de más de 20 km. Pero como si esto fuera poca exigencia para mis piernas, también encontré un servicio de alquiler de bicicletas en el valle, al que no dudé en ir porque nunca me negaría a seguir paseando 😅.

I am currently working in a hostel in the city of San Juan and one of my tasks is to recommend activities to guests. But instead of just recommending them, I first like to live the experience myself so I can give my genuine opinion. One of the things that guests ask the most about is bike rides, and although the province of San Juan is considered the capital of cycling, there is no rental service within the city. Very strange indeed 😅.

Actualmente me encuentro trabajando en un hostel en la ciudad de San Juan y una de mis tareas es recomendar actividades a los huéspedes. Pero en lugar de solo recomendarlas, primero me gusta vivir a mí la experiencia para poder dar mi opinión genuina. Una de las cosas por las que más consultan los huéspedes es sobre paseos en bicicleta, y aunque la provincia de San Juan se considera la capital del ciclismo, dentro de la ciudad no hay ningún servicio de alquiler. Muy raro en verdad 😅.

So to find bicycles for my guests I had to expand my search range to the outskirts of the city, and only 15 km away did I find a business that has just what they were asking for. In the so-called Zonda Valley, there is a small bicycle rental shop called Tándem Tour, which offers different proposals to get to know the area. The good thing is that this place can be easily reached by public transportation in a one-hour trip from our hostel and the ticket costs only 250 ARS (almost $0.25), so it is a good option for an afternoon walk 😃.

Entonces para encontrar bicicletas para mis huéspedes tuve que ampliar mi rango de búsqueda hasta las afueras de la ciudad, y recién a 15 km de ella encontré un negocio que tiene justo lo que me piden. En el llamado Valle de Zonda, hay una pequeña tienda de alquiler de biciletas llamado Tándem Tour, el cual ofrece distintas propuestas para conocer la zona. Lo bueno es que a este lugar se puede llegar fácilmente en transporte público en un viaje de una hora desde nuestro hostel y el boleto cuesta solo 250 ARS (casi $0.25), así que es una buena opción de paseo por la tarde 😃.

I found this rental service quite complete because it has touring bikes, mountain bikes and even double bicycles. For walks you can choose free time to go wherever you like and also with scheduled walks that include visits to vineyards, wineries and hotels. These routes have different distances and you can choose them based on your physical abilities. The good thing about it is that since this entire area is a valley, the routes are practically flat and the only thing that would change is how far you want to go 😃.

Este servicio de alquileres me pareció bastante completo porque cuenta con biciletas de paseo, bicicletas de montaña y hasta bicicletas dobles. Para los paseos se puede optar por tiempo libre para ir a donde gustes y también con paseos programados que incluyen visitas a viñedos, bodegas y hoteles. Estos recorridos tienen distinas distancias y los podes elegir en función de tus capacidades físicas. Lo bueno que tiene es que como toda esta zona es un valle, los recorridos son prácticamente planos y lo único que cambiaría es que tan lejos deseas ir 😃.

With my hostel companions we chose a walking option that included a 5 km route to a hotel with a restaurant where we would end the afternoon with a snack. Because of everything we've been walking so far, pedaling 5 km seemed a bit short but we let ourselves be tempted by the idea of a snack. This scheduled 2.5 hour walk cost us about 4600 ARS ($6 approx), which I thought was a pretty reasonable price since just the snack anywhere else could cost you half that price 😅.

Con mis compañeros del hostel elegimos una opción de paseo que incluía un recorrido de 5 km hasta un hotel con restaurante en donde terminaríamos la tarde con una merienda. Por todo lo que venimos caminando hasta ahora, pedalear 5 km parecía poco pero nos dejamos tentar por la idea de la merienda. Este paseo programado de 2.5 horas nos costó unos 4600 ARS ($6 aprox), lo cuál me pareció un precio bastante razonable ya que solo la merienda en cualquier otro lugar podría costarte la mitad de ese precio 😅.

The trip to the hotel was very quiet, between the streets of a neighborhood full of vineyards and weekend houses. The landscape was really pretty and full of vegetation, and I wouldn't have been able to take any photos of the intermediate path if it hadn't been because my partner's tire went flat and we had to stop for a moment. At first we thought the tire had gone flat, but luckily it was just a loose valve 😅.

El recorrido hasta el hotel fue muy tranquilo, entre las calles de un barrio lleno de viñedos y casas de fin de semana. El paisaje era realmente lindo y lleno de vegetación, y no hubiese podido sacar ninguna foto del camino intermedio sino hubiese sido porque a mi compañero se le desinfló la rueda y tuvimos que parar un momento. Al principió pensábamos que la rueda se había pinchado, pero por suerte solo fue una válvula floja 😅.

When we arrived at the hotel, it was very beautiful and elegant. With a privileged view of the mountains, this hotel occupied a large space with its own vineyards and winery. We had the opportunity to continue pedaling a little between the plantations and the typical clay soil of San Juan, and also stop to take some photographs. The walk was actually very nice and the landscapes were very impressive ❤️.

Cuando llegamos al hotel, este era de lo más lindo y elegante. Con una vista privilegiada a las montañas, este hotel ocupaba un gran espacio con sus propios viñedos y bodega. Tuvimos la oportunidad de seguir pedaleando un poco entre las plantaciones y el suelo arcilloso típico de San Juan, y también parar a tomarnos algunas fotografías. En verdad fue muy lindo el paseo y los paisajes muy imponentes ❤️.

I quite liked getting to this area of the valley because on the walks I had taken before I had not had the opportunity to go that far. It was also good to walk into this very elegant and beautiful hotel. We were able to check the price of the stay here and per night for two people the accommodation costs $200: a price quite out of our budget but at least we were able to spend the afternoon in the outskirts 😅.

Me gustó bastante llegar hasta esta zona del valle porque en los paseos que había dado antes no había tenido la oportunidad de ir tan lejos. También fue bueno entrar a este hotel muy elegante y hermoso. Pudimos consultar el precio de la estadía acá y por noche para dos personas el alojamiento cuesta $200: un precio bastante alejado de nuestro presupuesto pero al menos pudimos entrar a pasar la tarde en las afueras 😅.

This super luxurious hotel called Buena Vista also had its own organic garden from which they get their vegetables to cook in the restaurant. This space was also very nice and I think they used the space very well to attract customers. Even if you are not staying at the hotel you can only access the restaurant and walk around the property, so it is also a great place to come for a walk 😃.

Este hotel super lujoso llamado Buena Vista también contaba con su propia huerta orgánica de la cuál sacan sus verduras para cocinar en el restaurante. Este espacio era muy lindo también y pienso que ellos aprovecharon muy bien el espacio para atraer a los clientes. Incluso si no te hospedas en el hotel podes acceder solo al restaurante y pasear por el predio, así que también es un gran lugar para venir a pasear 😃.

Regarding the snack, for the price we paid we included a drink each, a slice of cake and some sweet pastries. The drink I chose was red fruit and was quite good, as was the pastry. At first my companions and I laughed because we were surrounded by such luxurious people and we were covered in clay from the bicycles, but then we got used to it and enjoyed the afternoon (although I would have liked it to be a little less dusty) 😂.

Con respecto a la merienda, por el precio que pagamos tuvimos incluído una bebida cada uno, una porción de tarta y algunas masas dulces. La bebida que yo elegí era de frutos rojos y estaba bastante bien, al igual que la pastelería. Al principio mis compañeros y yo nos reíamos por estar rodeados de gente tan lujosa y nosotros llenos de arcilla por las bicicletas, pero después nos acostumbramos y disfrutamos la tarde (aunque me hubiera gustado estar un poco menos polvorienta) 😅.

Taking this walk was really worth it to continue exercising our legs and recharging energy at that very moment. For the price, I also think we got good service and I would definitely repeat it: I already promised the owners that I would return because they have another proposal to go to a winery to taste some wine. The weather was also on our side with a great spring afternoon: things couldn't have gone better ❤️.

Hacer este paseo realmente valió la pena para continuar ejercitando nuestras piernas y recargando energías en ese mismo instante. Por el precio, también creo que obtuvimos un buen servicio y sin dudas lo repetiría: ya prometí a los dueños que volvería porque tienen otra propuesta de ir a una bodega a degustar un poco de vino. También el clima nos acompañó con una gran tarde primaveral: las cosas no podrían haber salido mejor ❤️.
