Eternal Tofu is Strangely BROKEN

Translated by ChatGPT.

Today I had the misfortune of facing an opponent using the summoner Eternal Tofu and seeing it in battle gives me the feeling that this card is strangely broken. When its preview was announced in the community reveals, which are common in Splinterlands, it didn't yet have the Thorns ability and already seemed good, but after gaining this incredible ability without any other drawback, it became excessively strong.

BEFORE

AFTER

Let's highlight each of its benefits and then make some comparisons. Costing 7 mana, the Tofu can use cards from two elements, increases +2 Health, and distributes Snare and Thorns to all cards. On top of that, it also has the mechanic of granting abilities after seeing the opponent’s team, with four different options as you can see in the image.

You can give Divine Shield to three cards and watch your opponent suffer from the Thorns damage after each attack, or make an extremely absurd combo using Triage and Scavenger to create a monster in the backline.

It's almost sad to compare it to summoners like Mylor Crowling who, despite costing 3 mana, provides only ONE of the SIX benefits that Eternal Tofu gives to your team. In percentages, Mylor’s mana cost is equivalent to 43% of Tofu’s, but its benefits amount to only 16.66%, a brutal difference.

Not satisfied or think it’s unfair to compare a rare card to a legendary one? Then let's compare it to one of the best cards in Splinterlands, the summoner Byzantine Kitty. Both have the same mana cost and a good variety of cards to choose from (I can't say for sure if Dragon is better than Tofu’s double element), and both apply three effects to the entire team. However, Tofu also has its pre-battle effects that offer greater versatility, surpassing Kitty in the number of resources granted to the team.

5 Effects

3 Effects

Of course, we could argue that Kitty’s ability combo is more consistent, and there’s no doubt about that. If used in the right battle, this summoner can practically win the battle on its own. However, in matches with a greater focus on survival, Tofu's immense range of effects can outperform Kitty’s effectiveness, showing just how strong this card is.

With the Up Close and Personal Rule Set in my battle, I stood no chance against a summoner that distributes Thorns to all cards, even when the Earth element wasn't available. This surprise was enough to completely break my team.

Battle.

Having said all this, I believe this card could perhaps be considered broken due to its enormous amount of benefits, but fortunately, its greatest balance comes from its scarcity, as it wasn’t cheap to acquire and that’s why I rarely face opponents who own it. What’s your opinion about Eternal Tofu?

While I do think this summoner is very powerful, it is in my two least favorite elements. I hate playing with life and I don't love earth either. My two favorites and death and water. I find myself playing Cryptic much more often than Tofu, even if Tofu might be the one that is more powerful overall.

One big problem for Tofu is the reflection shield on Max Olivia, which completely breaks the mirror match wide open, and makes the whole battle about which abilities Olivia gets to mimic during which rounds. This random mimic ability can truly decide the outcome in very similar Tofu builds.

Bzzt! Looks like Eternal Tofu is buzzing with power! That Thorns ability is a game-changer. Can't blame you for feeling like it's broken, lock! #hivebr

This Tofu is an overwhelming summoner and it makes the game unbalanced.

A green summoner overpowered? I can't believe it. untitled.gif

Actually in a different context Immortallis and Lorkus are strong too.
