So, for the last weeks I've been testing out the difference between Modern and Wild League, since the Wild Pass was introduced to fight the bot farms leeching from our economy the number of daily battles has dropped a ton, in fact, it's not hard to see when the wild pass was launched looking at the chart below.
This was a very good move in my opinion, and while it hurts the asset prices short term, it needed to be done, and so the bot farm owners dumped their assets on to the market, good chance for new and existing players to buy for cheap, I wouldn't be able to play at the max level when this didn't happen.
When this new rule came into effect, we could still buy the wild pass using vouchers, and when you had enough SPS staked it was basically free but since the last three seasons vouchers can no longer be used to buy the wild pass and now you can only use DEC or credits, with DEC not at peg just yet, it's cheaper to use DEC as credits and with the current price, a wild pass would cost $1.56 when DEC gets back to peg, the wild pass will cost $2.00
So, this raised the question for me, does it makes sense for me playing in Wild League? My deck is primarily Chaos Legion at high level added by older cards at lower level together with some key Rebellion cards, is it worth it to spend the 2k in DEC or am I better off fighting in Modern and save the DEC?
My logic was: Wild is easier because it's less top heavy, meaning I won't face all max level decks and so I will be able to win more, off setting the lower SPS earning because of the higher SPS staking requirement.
So, for my target at Gold 1 I need 58k SPS staked to have 'normal' earnings, or a 10x SPS boost. For wild the requirement is doubled, which is pretty ridiculous in my opinion but it is what it is.
Last season, I tried to play Modern only, because it's very top heavy the battles are hard and I only had a win rate of 47% at the end of the season and I managed to earn about 120k glint, which isn't bad at all.
This season, my plan was to go Wild only, but I soon came to the conclusion the lower accounts stopped buying the wild pass and wild has become top heavy just as modern and I start to have losing streaks just like in modern. 😅
So I changed my strategy and mixed playing in both wild and modern this season, with 1 day left let's see what the difference in earnings an win rate is...
The last battle I did in wild (and won) was yesterday morning, I received 1.82 SPS and 405 glint.
I am competing in Diamond 1, looking at the chart above for wild I would need a whopping 344 THOUSAND SPS to get a 10x boost, with my 64k SPS staked I 'only' get a 4.71x boost.
My win rate in Wild is 53.4% (you can calculate your winrate like this: wins x 100 / matches = % )
I modern, my last win (no win streak) earned 5.6 SPS and 438 glint, with the glint being about the same, my SPS earnings is times 3!
I am fighting in Diamond 3 in modern, with a SPS boost of 9.82x
So far, with about 10 battle energy left I'm up to 126k glint total for this season which is around the same as last season playing in modern only.
My win rate in modern is slightly lower than in wild, 49.2% but the difference isn't a lot and won't make up for the lower SPS earnings in wild.
Conclusion
Of course this is different for every player because it largely depends on your deck and SPS amount staked, considering my deck in mostly Chaos Legion I'm better off playing in modern only as long as Chaos Legion is allowed in modern and saving the 2k DEC every season. With it, I can buy 195 extra SPS which is about 400 every month.
Hopefully, this will last until the next summer, and by that time hopefully SPS has boomed so I can sell a chunk to fund a new Gold deck with, we will see how it goes! 🙂
