This was very hyped movie because it was going to be start of Justice League. It starts with after events of previous SuperMan movie.
Bruce Wayne/Batman is very pissed at Superman because of destruction being caused by him while saving the planet from extinction. He had different viewpoint about whole situation.
Lex Luthor exploits this situation and actually create a situation in which they have to fight with each other to death. He kidnaps Superman's mother and instructs him to kill Batman.
Later on, when they find common ground during fight, they decide to work together against common enemy because Lex spawned a monster from wrecks of previous alien ship.
Wonderwoman also join their team and fight alongside them. The trio of them eventually beats the enemy but it did cost superman's life and he is laid to rest at the end of movie.
