A Visit to Rufford Abbey in Nottinghamshire

We visited Rufford Abbey in Nottinghamshire, which has 150 acres of parkland, woods and gardens.

The Abbey is a former 12 century Cistercian Monastery and country house. There was some kind of exhibition going on about the life of medieval monks in the courtyard. Source

There was also a few shops and a cafe in the courtyard, but it was pretty quiet today.

There had been bushcraft events teaching people how to make a woodland den. They were quite good.

There was a ford nearby. At the moment they've had to close it. The ford has appeared many times on Youtube and Tik Tok with videos of cars driving through the water and getting stuck. It has become too much of a tourist attraction with lots of people turning up.

We walked around the lake and stopped and looked at the lovely, tufted ducks. We enjoyed our walk and visit to this lovely country park.

Nice bushcraft! Not many people there! I always wonder what were behind the abbey’s walls. Are there still people walking in brown robes?!

Honestly, this woodland den doesn't look particularly robust, it looks more like a big fire being made:) But the idea is fun.

I'd live in it. I fancy living in the wood ... but not at night.
