When Technology Steals Your Words

For the first time since I started writing on the Hive platform, I lost an article before I could publish it. As always with anything I do, I put my heart and soul into my posts, and always make sure I finish writing my articles in one go and have them published. But this time I couldn't help it due to circumstances beyond my control, and I lost the post altogether. An experience I have never had since I started blogging.

Here is what happened. It was again a busy day as always, I have to travel to my home town to see some relatives, and then went to meet my woman at the shop to help in the parking and closing the shop before returning home late in the evening. All the transport shuffle, even the meetings made my daily schedule so tight that I couldn't write article during the day. So my thought was to do it as soon as I get home.

To be honest, I didn't think that there would be anything that can make it impossible for me to finish writing the post as usual. I have the topic already built up inside and was eagerly looking forward to get home so I could pour out my heart and finish the post. But I was wrong.

When I got home, I tried to answer some calls, make some other business, and finally found the moment to prepare for some writing. Luckily, we had electricity and I thought it would be faster using the laptop. Hitting on my laptop, I started typing away, but just after the third paragraph my electricity supply went out. However, I thought the laptop battery will be enough to power the system for some time, until I can recharge the battery. So I kept going nearly the conclusion of the post, until the inevitable happened.

I didn't remember that my data pack was due for a renewal until I received a message that my data has been finished because I was writing live. While the laptop battery was running out, I tried to refill my data pack through my bank app but I received a message that my order could not be handled at the moment. I tried several times to no avail and have to give up. Meanwhile, the laptop battery ran out on me without having to save what I have already typed. This meant that I have lost the post.

It was really disappointing, I was looking forward to publish something interesting, but I could not do it. However, after about 2 hours interval, I was able top up my data package. I don't know how I couldn't even remember that my data pack was due for a renewal, and I even use two different network providers to avoid such situations.

Since the electricity hasn't been returned I couldn't access my laptop to check if I could be able to restore the article I was working on before the suspense started. I hope I would be able to restore my work and post the article another day, I wouldn't want to forget about it because it was a topic well conceived.

Why am I writing this?

I bet there are other users who lost their writings and may be familiar with the situation and thus consider it a usual thing. But I, on the other hand, feel that this event taking away a part of me and I wouldn't want to go through with it again ever.

Besides that, I share this with you expecting that it would make me forget about this incident and that the diffused feeling of annoyance that is surrounding me would disappear. Not sure if that's going to work but I still hope so, for my mental health sake.

I hope this little post wasn't so boring for you, here's to see your response. Thanks

When doing longer articles, always save draft

Next time it happens :
CTRL A - Copy the whole article
Open notepad, or your prefered text editor.
CTRL C - Pastes it
Save

The draft on peakd is automatic, but if your network/data pack and battery run out ... This solution saves your work.
