Poetry is very open to interpretation at the best of times. I can see how a mindset could change the translation as most languages don't translate 100% accurately through different uses and words. Even in one language a sentence can be read differently through use of grammar so it could happen.

A lot of my native tongue has been translated into English over the years though foreign occupation and the translations are not very accurate. They tend to be very literal rather than our language which is descriptive.
