Cards From My Personal Collection: Derell McCall 2002 Topps Baseball Card

in Trading Cards!2 years ago

Derell McCall's pitching career did not go as planned as he spent his entire career in the minors. But his career is the reality of a massive majority of major league baseball players. It's not easy to get to the big show!

But hey, the man got to have his own legitimate baseball card, and that in it of itself is a tremendous accomplishment. Plus, he's in my collection and a small part of MLB history so why not give him some shine. I don't want to skip any of my cards.

From 2000-2009 McCall journeyed through official Minor League teams posting a 45-52 record with a 4.29 ERA. From 2009-2014 he spent his time in the Independent leagues recording a 56-45 record while posting a 4.44 ERA.

In total, McCall posted a 101-97 record as a semi-pro pitcher. He got to get paid to play baseball for 15 seasons, that's pretty awesome.

Here's a story about McCall officially retiring in 2015. Baseball is an easy sport to love, it's tough for guys to not realize their MLB dreams. This post is likely one of the only articles written on the man since!

Minor league baseball really adds a lot of lore to the game in general.
