Cards From My Personal Collection: Jose Valentin 2002 Topps Baseball Card

in Trading Cards!last year

Jose Valentin is a player whose name always sort of stood out to me. His name sounds like a movie main character, or perhaps even a villain.

I suppose to some opponents, Valentin was a villain, because he was a really solid player for a long time in the MLB from 1992-2007.

I'm mildly surprised Valentin never made an All-Star team, but not as surprised as the last two players. Although, he did place 9th in rookie of the year votes in 1994.

Over his sixteen pro seasons, Valentin played eight with the Brewers, five with the White Sox, two with the Mets and one with the Dodgers.

Valentin's skills were appreciated enough to at least make the Brewers Wall of Honor.

Interestingly, Valentin hit more homeruns in five seasons with the White Sox, than in his eight seasons with the Brewers. Hitting 136 in a White Sox uniform and 90 with the Brewers. Valentin might be on the Brewers Wall of Honor but it looks like the White Sox got the better version of Valentin.

I his career, Valentin hit a solid 249 homeruns, recorded 1,348 hits with a .243 career batting average.
