My girlfriend was looking for some souvenirs here as we're shortly leaving this country and I stumbled upon a few Pokémon Card Boxes. Naturally the thought that they were fake struck me instantly but after having watched so many youtubers and streamers open up boxes the past year or two during all the hype after Logan Paul opened his, I figured what the hell. So I went ahead and bought two just for the fun of opening them up, fully knowing they were fake, especially since I got them at a good price (about $15 for both boxes), naturally you'd never be able to find original ones for that price as they all get sold out instantly when they are released (even newer ones). The cost compared to original ones on Amazon would be around $6 for only one pack and these fake ones came with about 40 packs or something in a box.
(censored the price tag as to not doxx my location :p , the store owner also opened them up on the side to pull a couple out to show me they hadn't been pre-opened and messed with as if that mattered with them being fake xD)
The boxes I got was Sword and Shield Battle Styles and Pokemon Sword and Shield Fusion Strike which surprisingly seemed a lot cheaper on amazon so maybe the box that got me interested in the first place due to Mew being on the Box is the one they scammed me even more on, but whatever it wasn't that much money.
I started out with opening Battle Styles and there were not that many rare cards in it, I was surprised by the quality to be honest and comparing it to real ones on the internet it wasn't that bad.
Before I started opening the other box I figured hey I should take pictures for a post so no pictures of the first box, sorry.
The box and what the packs looked like below, I mean they did a good job with it not gonna lie. Almost makes me wonder how much it costs them to re-create these, considering I got it for about $7.50 for 36 or 40 packs I can't imagine they must've profited much.
My first pack opened!
Surprised by a holographic V card which should be quite rare I started off this pack properly, two more non-holo V cards of the same Pokémon was a bit odd, though, the other odd thing was that the other 6 cards were all electric, no energy card nor a trainer card. Odd indeed, and something that naturally made my certainty of it being fake rise from 99.99% to 99.999%.
This next pack was a little more legit looking I had to say, one holo V card, Suicune, one of my favorites from Gen 2, and then a few fire, normals, water and a couple different non-holo V cards. Had I opened this pack up first I may have been less certain of it's fakeness!
Honestly the V cards didn't look that bad, I decided to record the light and shine a bit and converted it into a gif for easier viewing here in the post. I mean if I had no idea that there are fakes around I sure would be fooled all the way. This could be a nice present for some kids who may not find out they're fake until they hit their teenage years and dad went for cigarettes and didn't come back years ago.
Oh snap, here we go, the reason I bought these dumb boxes to begin with; MEW! Although it's a VMAX it was unfortunately non-holographic. Still cute, though, may keep one of these cards in my wallet for extra luck as he's been one of my profile pics for many years in and around Hive. Trainer and energy cards started to appear more often at this point.
Two more non-holo V cards and another holo V card in this pack, the consistency of these holo V cards at this point was starting to feel weird. Although I didn't chekc how often they are supposed to be drawn in the original it was starting to feel suspicious, but maybe I was just really lucky or was not going to get a holo Mew, who knows!
BOYAH! The card I was mostly looking forward to getting! Holo VMAX Mew! What a cutie :3
At this point I didn't care any more what I'd get, chances are I'd probably throw most cards away so I don't have to carry as much luggage, I like to keep it light, but still a lot of packs left to open so let's see!
Another Mew V non-holo! More mews, more mews!!!
At this point things started to get a bit weird as there was a holo V or VMAX card in every pack, like, ehm, were they even trying to still pretend to be real or is this some kind of special box where each pack has a guaranteed holo? I mean I wasn't complaining but it was a bit suspicious. I couldn't be this lucky with my fake cards, right?
I like the gen 1 cards the most of course as that's when I was mostly into Pokémon as a kid, Gen 1 and 2 and after that I kind of lost interest.
Not really sure what kind of version this Moltres is but maybe @daltono appreciates it as I remember he has a tattoo of Articuno which is one of the 3 legendary birds from Gen1.
This one I got no idea what it is, probably something from recent generations, but the holo VMAX's and V's just kept on coming!
Jolteon! What a beauty! Actually impressed by how good looking these fake cards were, hadn't even noticed a difference from the original ones (not that I looked too deeply into them and what these packs would have).
Another different Mew :3
Here we have another Gen 1 Pokemon in holo, a nice and angry (as always) looking Gyarados!
This one actually caught me by surprised as I wasn't expecting the equivalent of Mew from Gen 2 to be in here as well and for me to get so lucky to pull it, nice nice!
I was on my last or second last pack when I pulled this last cutie, different art style and holo as well, very sweet!
Here's all the cards I pulled together, V's, VMAX's, holo V's, holo VMAX's, regular, energy and trainer cards all stacked on top of each other. As you can see they really gave me a holo V or VMAX in each pack so definitely suspicious. If that's how the original packs are I doubt the cards are worth much if everyone's getting some.
It also begs the question of how cheap is it to make these? Like seriously, I get that I bought them from a second or third hand shop and someone down the line must've lost on their initial purchase but there's no way they are able to create 36x9 cards for only $7.50. It's not like they are very cheap shit looking ones either, I mean these looked really decent. If I knew who'd create these and if that's actually the cost, I'd wanna have them create some custom cards for me as well, maybe $POSH PETS NFT could also have physical cards connected to their NFT counterpart? ;)
Let's cross that bridge when we get there, but for now I hope you enjoyed checking this post out and maybe reading something different than the usual rants of losers lashing out cause they can't get what they unfairly want to get on Hive as we discussed in my previous one. :P
Hope you're all doing well and focus on posting, curating and building stuff on Hive during these dumb markets and not financial advice of course but a good opportunity for some of you who've been wanting to grow your stake, I doubt Hive can drop much lower so personally I think the upside is way more worth the possible downside it still can get to. Definitely a good time to buy for that long term hold.
The great things about Hivers is also that there's so much you can do with your stake and on top of it earn more through posting and curating, which in a way gives you an edge on your investment compared to those just holding liquids on the exchanges and fomo dumping or pumping the price looking for a quick profit but most likely ending up selling for a loss. Wish there were easier ways to let them know what they're missing out on by not having their Hive staked up and be part of the network!
Either way, see you guys next time!
Hejsan @acidyo,

I can identify who this is in my sleep
It has been your Discord avatar since I got to know you. I think you only changed it recently.
Low prices of hive are actually a very good opportunity to stake up, no doubt. I just wrote a little piece along that line (don't wanna link you :).
Expecting more posts about your trip. My greetings to your gf (don't wanna tag).
I am wondering why thete is lower activity on hive during the dumb season. Even after the dumb the price of hive is higher than it was last year in the same month. Well, I was never on Hive because of its price but because of the opportunities it holds for a writer. Dumps or pumps has nothing to do with my activity. I always try to spend as much time as I can.
Those cards are really beautiful especially the light shinning on them. I have seen in things like clothes and accessories, the copies of brands are quite good in quality but a way quite cheapers. It makkes me wonder if the copy makers get lower profits or the original makers take too much profit.
Would be interesting to see how those compare to the real thing. I don’t collect Pokémon cards anymore these days. I know for Magic the Gathering the font thickness, card texture, and card bendability usually give fakes away.
For something like those Pokémon cards, I wonder how the foil edges compare to the real thing.
It does look like Fusion Strike Build & Battle Box are only going for $14.97 on TCG Player. They crashed quite hard in price. While it’s a little different than what you have it seems like a lot of these Fusion Strike boxes are not holding value well.
Sometimes the trick to a fake box is they are not fake cards they are just cheap chards. However, with some of the “pulls”, you got I might assume some of those cards could be real with the big finds being fake.
I would wonder how the colors on say the Ninetales stack against a real known card. It almost looks like the border around it has the wrong thickness. Along with the copy-right information being faded and harder to read than it should be. Those all could just be due to the camera angle as well.
As far as cost a “store” could have bulk bought a lot of the more common cards for less than a cent each. I’ve heard of people who just can’t toss their bulk cards but can’t hold them either just dumping them for a couple of bucks for thousands of the near-worthless cards that they also never played. Since they are not worth trying to sell online.

I recently got into Pokemon cards with my son and decided to see if I can find any Hive posts. This one came up. I have noticed that fake cards are so common among my sons friends. I guess it’s dude to the little shops selling them in candy packs for 3$. The ones I see are V’s, or Vmax with no shine to it.
Haha what a blast from the past, quite a nice timing on this comment as this time I bought some real Pokemon Cards in Bangkok and was planning on posting about it some time soon. :D
But yeah, wasn't easy to find the real ones and neither cheap. :D
I am so excited for the 151 set! Can’t find them yet. I’ll probably just have to wait for the English version to be released. The Scarlet and violet set is pretty cool. We recently pulled this one :)
Haha that one looks awesome, I got lucky with a VMAX of a Pokemon after my interest faded in the games :P only opened 4 packs but planning on maybe ordering some more in the near future cause I really want a Mew!
As this post simply floats completely over my elderly head, I shall simply wish you all the best on your travels although I will say, as a cigarette and tea card collector myself in the 70s and 80s, I do get the collection bug and it sure as hell beats pictures on a screen!
I wish they still put picture cards and collectibles in cig packets , I'd be a whale by now if they did!
If you're far to young too know what I'm talking about....
Not exactly Pokémon but we did used to gamble and play them against each other.
cigarette cards? damn never even heard of that! You should post about it, no idea what they could even look like.
Me neither. I've heard of football players cards but not cigarette and tea cards. I'd gladly collect tea cards as I'm a tea lover.
It’s crazy we have yet to pull a Mew. Hopefully soon. Good luck to you! :)
You made me look in a box I have with collectibles, 20-21 years ago I acquired these pokemon cards. I got them all on the same day, except for the tepig card, which was from a collection that McDonald's put out 😅. The Clefable card is the only one that has a shiny look to it lol.
They seem to be in good condition, if only they were english they would probably be worth a lot more!
What if they are actually not fake but super cheap originals 😅 now, I'm thinking that way because you didn't stop hyping not authenticity of them... I guess they blew your mind with cheap stuff this time around 😂
Sometimes I'm amazed by what people do with originals, they can be so cunny to deceive a lot in getting a fake as original... But your case is different, you knew they are fake 🤣
I must say they are actually very cheap or should I say, too cheap compared to the amount of the original you wrote here.
Wow thanks for asking, I am doing the best I can even though it's been a bit hard today for me, I'm a bit sick right now and can't seem to do much 😢🤒 but I'll still try... I have a target to meet 🤦♀️
My baby is sick again???? 🥺😔
I am sorry babes. Get well soon. 😩😴
Thanks love 🥺
I'll be fine soon
Pretty surprised that someone bothered to fake Fusion strike and Battle Styles, to be honest. They're both extremely unpopular sets along with Chilling Reign due to bad pull rates. And, typically these fake products end up being used on Ebay/Mercari and other places to try and scam newbies these days. You can find Fusion Strike ETB's pretty often that are discounted down to $30-35 that still don't sell. And, Battle Styles booster boxes are available for around $80 on quite a few sites compared to the normal $115-130 price, because everyone and their geriatric grandma living in a nursing home dislike that set for having basically no chase cards.
lol i had no idea about them prior to buying, even if they had been original.
Well, yeah. Unless you're playing the card game or being an addict collector like me you wouldn't know. You should see the data on modern pull rates though, shit is a nightmare compared to 20 years ago. The pull rate for base set Charizard was 1/48 packs. You know what current pull rates look like? The chase cards on average are a 1/600 chance to get. Some sets are worse like Evolving Skies, the chase cards in that are a 1/1200 chance to pull.
Fusion Strike had a total other issue on top of bad pull rates as well. They had a manufacturing issue where they loaded several pallets of booster boxes up with a secret rare in almost every pack, which lead to a bunch of other boxes not having any secret rares at all. Modern Pokemon is abysmal as fuck to open sometimes. But, that god damn scratch still needs to be itcheddd.
xD
Hmmm, I've never played Pokemon ut.... Mew is soooo cute... even if fake. Sorry 'bout that.
I'll just move on and keep on posting, curating and commenting - you know the deal, right?!
Hope you're doing well and you are a) still on vacation with your GF or b) arrived well at your current home 😁
Back around 2008 my old man was deployed over in Afghanistan. He would send me home so many Yugioh cards because he got them for dirt cheap up there. Not sure if they're fake or not. I mean they look real. I might have to dig em up to take a look at them.
This Mew kinda looks like she's showing off her big 🍑
It doesn't matter whether it is original or fake, it looks attractive and it is cheap, it is the first time I see such monsters.
It's been a while since I've been watching Pokemon, is there a monster fusion technique in series?
Totally worth it for the Mews! :D
Was it still exciting to open, even though you knew they were fake?
Honestly the first box was more exciting cause they didn't have guaranteed holo and rare ones in each pack. This just became too much and removed that part of the gamble too.
Are you now travelling with hundreds of cards in your luggage? :D
Yes sir, if they ask me what this is I'll just tell them i caught them all
wow, I would never have known. Those look really good. My kids (my son) would get these when we lived in Philippines, really cheap! but hey, if it looks cool and all the kids like em.. then why not, right?? He and some other boys would trade them all the time. :)
Whole fake boxes? Why make fake commons.., besides 2 sealed boxes of Battle Styles (that will never be opened), I have no clue about PokeMon.
In Magic, I have not seen fake whole boxes.. just the older cards of value. I have a fake Black Lotus, and it's easy to see.
I did not know that forgeries of these letters existed. I had a lot of fun reading your post, like you the first two generations of Pokémon were my favorites, after that I lost interest in them. Although I must confess that I have never bought Pokémon cards, and it was exciting to look at the cards you were showing. Really, the cards look well made. My favorite Pokémon have always been Dragonate and Articuno.
Oh wow cool 😃
You have a big collection 😊 ❤
They are so cool.
Congratulations on your completion!
I remember when we were in high school we used to collect round Pokemon tokens. Sometimes we played playing chips with our hands, laying 2 chips facing the table, if the chips turned over, the winner takes them. Sometimes we exchanged for rare heroes)
If you have a lot of round chips, then you are cool, you were able to beat many. It was cool, carefree!
I'm glad that even after school age we remain fans of the hero of our childhood.
I wish I had balls with Pokemon now to win the war with rashists.
We pray and believe that Ukraine will defend its freedom!
When the war is over, we will rebuild everything, then I invite you to our country) Maybe you will find new Pokemon here. We also have a lot of Pokémon fans.
Have a nice day and good mood! 🤗
If that were authentic TCG, we'd be millionaires buying from that shop 🤣 I found cheaper fake ones selling for $3 a box. My nephews like the game and I wanted to teach them the proper gameplay using the fake ones. But because of this ...
They just ended up making their own rock-paper-scissors type of gameplay. It's silly that energy cards are much more rarer than holo VMAXes in these fakes. 🤣
Yeah lol which is weird cause you'd think they'd wanna spend as little as possible producing these fake ones for profit.
Tough to believe these are fake, these actually look quite nice. I guess the fakes have really stepped up their game haha.
😂 You got better cards than I did!
LOL! Fake or not, that’s an awesome score!
Pokemon series were my favorites, I love monsters and fights especially pecachu it's very cute, films weren't at all liked.
Very strange that there is fraud, attention is required
I liked the first movie to be honest, even now in later years it's still decent, but yeah aftet that not so much, same with the series.
Seems like you should buy s’more. I would buy some of those from you but I‘ll pay with Monopoly money.
So with Luna?
Maybe with a Hive Engine token called Luna, max supply 999Exotrillion
