May Recap Already?

Where does the time go? Feels like we just recapped April and now May has ended.

Progress this month was both good and sparse. We did not update as much as we would have liked. But we did get a basic set up for the UI done. And we added Eddy's drones. Still not sure if we are going to go with Ed, Edd (and Eddy) or Ding1 and Ding2. 😂

We also learned a LOT about Unreal, researched potential blockchain usage, and just a whole bunch of other things we could not really picture and post.

Unreal 5 was released in early access. Which is pretty huge. We immediately switched our project over and have been working with it ever since. Sure it is not production ready (neither are we!) but... it will be and there has not really been any problems with it so far (knock on wood.) We are planning to take full advantage of a lot of the new features. It felt almost like they were releasing this new version just for our game! 🤣

We are currently hard at work on environment and level design. So, look forward to seeing a lot of pictures in June! Above is just a somewhat early work in progress shot.

We purchased some textures from Lowly Poly and are very happy with them so far.

At least this is the plan. @mimerr does not take his Adderall anymore! But it will be okay. There is so much to do, as long as we concentrate on what is on our mind at the moment, progress is made.

But there will definitely be more world building coming up! Just do not be surprised if game systems, animations, music, or anything else really slips into the mix as well. 😅

Either way, if you like what you see, do not forget to follow us! We update pretty regularly. 🙂

Nice, wish you guys great success with UE5. Not sure if I'll be making the switch myself.

Thanks! Honestly, as far as working with the engine, it does not feel all that different. The UI change is kind of nice but really they just shrunk the top ribbon style bar down to a smaller icon toolbar. And made the content panel easy to toggle (though you can just pin it like before still too.) Otherwise it is about the same.

The new features seem to stay out of the way unless you actually want to use them. Or start a new project. The Lumen lighting will be default for new projects. But it is actually kind of nice.

This is just as much reason not to bother making the switch until it is production ready as it is to make the switch now though haha.

Unless you really want to use one of the new features, it probably is not worth the bother.

It does transition rather seamlessly though. We made a copy of our entire project then opened it in Unreal 5. And it basically just opened without any problems. Some settings did not follow but those were easily updated.

Granted, you have a lot more progress in your game than we do in ours I think, so may not be the same experience.

Keep it up! Looking forward to future updates on the progress.

Thanks for the encouragement! It is getting exciting. Starting to really feel like a game instead of just an idea now. So unless life decides to punch us in the face a few times... updates should be coming very soon. 😅
