After a big round robin of engine testing. And even contemplating going back to the original 2D plan using something Like DragonRuby or Heaps. We dove into Unreal as an engine choice. It took a lot to really get going. Unreal is massive. So much to learn. We're now about 90% certain we'll be going forward with 3D in Unreal though.
Next up we plan to really refine the controls and animations to get a fluid feeling and nice visual transitions.
