Pregnancy at an older age is a risk

Pregnancy at an older age is a risk, no matter how financially stable you are, it will still not change the fact.

Let me use my friend Rosaline as an example. Rosaline had her first and second son in her early twenties and her twins in her late thirties, and I could see the visible changes and effects it had on her body. Having a baby in your forties and fifties is not a flex. The only difference between being financially stable and having a baby at an older age is that you can afford better health care. However, not all these factors reduce the risks that come with it. Rosaline nearly lost her life delivering the twins, and I know one contributing factor was age. Her body was a little weaker compared to her previous pregnancies, and even before her expected date of delivery, she was in and out of the hospital most of the time. Even after the delivery of the twins, she still has not fully recovered compared to her previous birth, where, after 1-2weeks post birth, she will be so strong and almost fit to do many things. As of today, she can afford quality life based on her current standard, but it still has not changed the fact that age contributed to what she felt during childbirth. Not all hands are equal, but as soon as you enter 30, 40, 50, and still consider going through childbirth, you take your health very seriously and endeavor to receive quality care as much as possible. Do not joke with any slight change or information from your doctor; your delivery must be in a sound hospital with an active emergency care.

Still on the pregnancy care, according to my student friend from the department of biochemistry, taking 400 micrograms of folic acid daily for the first 21 days after conception can help reduce the risk of brain and spinal cord birth defects. Neural tube defects can lead to varying degrees of paralysis, incontinence, and sometimes-intellectual disability in your baby. One thing that can help during pregnancy is nutrition. From conception to childbirth and post-childbirth, the food you eat affects both the mother and child. Like a biochemist who had an A in nutritional biochemistry, my student friend explained that diets in pregnancy are very important. One really needs to pay attention to it. It can affect the overall health of body, and even affect the unborn baby. In pregnancy, one sometimes needs guidance on what to eat and what not to eat. If you eat too much, it has its effects; if you eat too little, you are malnourished, and it will affect your baby. You can also eat, but it is not the appropriate diet you need, while sometimes it has just empty calories, but you eat it because you crave it.

My view on pregnancy and childbirth is that when thinking of bringing a life into this world, consider your health first. So you do not bring in a child with a defect or live the rest of your life trying to heal from a one-time experience or trauma. However, I wish every pregnant woman out there a safe delivery, and to everyone expecting a child, may you have as many as you want safely.
