
INFERTILITY
Infertility refers to the inability of a couple to achieve a clinically recognizable pregnancy after a year of regular unprotected sexual intercouse.
STERILITY
Sterility refers to the intrinsic inability to achieve pregnancy.
The word SUBFERTILITY is now prefered to infertility and it is sometimes used interchangeably.
Infertility can be further subdivided into primary infertility and secondary infertility.
PRIMARY INFERTILITY: Refers to when the couple has never achieved a pregnancy.
SECONDARY INFERTILITY: Refers to when the couple has achieved a pregnancy before, although not necessarily a successful one.

FOR PREGNANCY TO OCCUR THE FOLLOWING ARE REQUIRED;
- Regular ovulation
- Patent and functional fallopian tubes
- Normal uterus
- Normal semen parameters
- Reguale unprotected penovaginal sexual intercourse about 3 to 4 times a week
CAUSES OF INFERTILITY
FEMALE CAUSES.
- Tubal factors(fallopian tube dysfunctions)
- Ovulatory disorders
- Uterine factors
- Vaginal and cervical factors
- Unexplainable causes
MALE CAUSES
1.Abnormal semen parameters(sperm count, morphology and motility)
- Sexual dysfunction
- Unexplainable causes
