There were times I didn’t know what I was doing in my life but I still did something anyway. Growing up, our parents and teachers would always ask us what we wanted to be in future and you’ll hear us talk about how we wanted to be teachers, doctors, lawyers and many more. Thinking about it, these grown ups knew that adulthood wasn’t a joke but they still let us have our dreams.

Some of us are able to achieve these dreams of ours easily, others achieve them but they have to go through a lot while some don’t achieve them at all. One thing we are not told while growing up is that life is unpredictable. Your life can change within a minute and you wouldn’t understand how it happened.

I always knew what I wanted to do in life. My next moves are always preplanned years or months ahead and I make sure I do whatever it takes for my plans to go as they should. For example, after senior high school I knew what I wanted to study in the university and when the school I applied to gave me a different course I decided to take a gap year and do other stuff. This is an example of unexpected life events. This gap year I took was one I needed for so long but I didn’t know because my head was always buried in a book. I got to try other stuff outside of school, learn new skills , meet new people and also restructure my life. From there, I never the opportunity to take a gap year even though i need it, but life still goes on.

Looking back to two years ago, I was in my third year in the university and all I was worried about was studying and passing my exams but God knows I didn’t even have time for myself. I didn’t expect to have such a busy year cos who would have known that I would be this busy. Even though so many things went down, both good and bad ,I was still able to reach my target for the year and more.

I actually dreaded just the thought of leaving school and having to go into the real world. Sometime last year, I told my friend I was actually scared and happy to complete school because even though I knew I wouldn’t have to worry about my grades and school work anymore, I didn’t know what was out there in the real world and from what I had heard, it wasn’t easy out there.

Now that I am out there and I can boldly tell you that it’s actually not easy.😂 I never would have thought that a day would come when I would have to worry about waking up at 4am to study because I had to go lecture students. I didn’t think my life would get this busy and sort of boring but it is where I want to be. I am where I envisioned to be two years ago and I am really happy about that. The only thing I didn’t consider was how my life would be now that I am here but well, I guess that was less of my worry. As they say, when we get to the bridge we will cross it.😄

A lot has gone down within the past two years. Things I didn’t even expect to happen did , I made mistakes, learnt more than I imaged and also achieved my goals and some more. Now that I am where I am today, I know that in a few years time, I would look back and realise that all the plans that I made for myself today would come to pass because I am an optimistic person. Life is beautiful, let’s learn to make it count.
