Bars Don’t Erase Humanity

One thing about we human beings is the fact that some of us if not all are very quick to judge others. Things happen and on we hear about it we are already judging others without even knowing the whole story. Honestly, if the tables were to be turned, most of us would do much worse than those we are judging did. We can never fully understand what it felt or meant in that moment for the person and that’s why I always stand by the rule that we humans are not to judge others.

Every one of us makes mistakes. Every one of us also does good and bad. Infact, all of us do bad, just that most of us get to get away with our bad deeds without having to face the law while others unfortunately get caught in the act. Some of us also are innocent but being in some places at the wrong time end us into trouble. Prison or jail isn’t a place I would want anyone to find themselves. Why because in there, you have no freedom at all.

Finding yourself in jail is one of the worst things that can ever happen to you, especially in Ghana. Because aside losing your freedom, you might end up losing yourself during the time you spend there and mostly, it takes divine intervention to have people come and be the beta version of themselves. Let’s not forget that none of us is perfect, and I bet you most people in jail are just innocent people. Even if they are not, let’s not forget the fact that they are also human.

Personally, I did see the video of a chef in Ghana, Chef Faila visiting the prison in Ghana to cook for them on Christmas Day. Everyone has his opinion on this act of kindness but for me, I’d say this lady deserves heaven on earth because each year we celebrate Christmas in Ghana. Yet how many of us remember our fellow brothers and sisters behind bars? This act of kindness would never be forgotten and these people she decided to surprise and make their day memorable would forever remember her for this.

This is what I call humanity. This is what makes us who we are. Hopefully, we get to see more and more of these beautiful acts in the coming years.

It’s even the fact that they sometimes are made to weed our cities for us. I wonder if they get paid or something. Anyway, they are definitely not less human and shouldn’t be denied the opportunity to celebrate the festive season.
