An Unforgettable Day

in HiveGhana2 years ago

The Day started quite well, it was a bright and sunny day, I was in my second year in Junior High School, I attended this school with my siblings till they graduated and wrote the WASSCE which enabled them to attend senior high school.

In this same school, my Dad taught Mathematics and Twi to my class as well as the other classes, it wasn't awkward or anything like that because my dad had taught a class for some years before I got to this level. I always learned hard in all subjects and came out on top so no one would ever think my dad favored me in any exams whatsoever.

On this particular day day was taking forever to come to school, however, as a student, I didn't let it concern me since my Dad is an adult and his whereabouts shouldn't really be my priority whiles in school. He skipped the lessons he had with us and at the end of the day I still had not seen him. I had seen the teachers whisper some talks about my Dad and make some calls but none really came to me with anything till after we closed

That was when the other Twi teacher came to tell me that my Dad has been hospitalized and thus why he couldn't come in today after I came to school. I didn't know how to take it because, that has never happened before and my dad didn't sick when I was coming to school, or maybe he did? I started thinking plenty, wondering and looking for answers to how I left him for school in the morning.

So I rushed home, as quickly as I could, when I got home, it was my eldest sister who was home, my mum and Dad weren't and when I asked about him he said they are in the hospital and that mum is with him, she is only home because he is coming to prepare water and some food for him. I asked what was wrong and she said he has been diagnosed with Cerebrospinal Meningitis, imagine my fear, worry, and distress

The name of the condition alone can send chills down your spine, and I had an idea of what we were talking about, I didn't know the intricacies but I remembered something from school, the science we studied. My sister wouldn't let me tag along to the hospital so I had to stay home. Going to school became an alone ride for quite a while. There were days my Mum came home crying because Dad had gotten worse and days she was a little bit better or more lively.

At a point Dad couldn't even open the mouth, the Jaw was tightened due to the condition, all this while I still had not had the chance to see him. After weeks of care and hospitalization, Dad finally started to get better and although it took quite a while, he finally came back home. Most of the health workers called it a miracle, but my focus was on the fact that I had my dad and all was well again

But that particular day, the scare I experienced and the chill that went down my spine, the fear of losing a day and all, really add up to make it one of my unforgettable days. I always thank Yahweh for the gift of life of my Dad and I am glad to still have my parents with me...

It is so interesting to read about the experiences of different people on the blockchain. Thanks for bringing this to share with us, buddy.

Thanks Sir

Such is life, you're with someone today and in a matter of seconds, the person is either gone or seriously sick with no glimpse of hope. Thank God Daddy recovered and stayed with us. There are valuable lessons to learn from this. Today we're strong, tomorrow we're not.

Indeed, we ought to cherish every moment like is our last one
