Understanding Feminism: A Simple Guide for Women

in HiveGhana5 months ago

I came across @Abenad article today, titled "FEMINISM IN THE WRONG LENS" and that was what gave me the idea of what to write today.

We women don't even actually understand feminism and the role we also play in the world of feminism. Feminism is not just about we women alone just like we all see in social media, it is about equality between men and women, that means men also have a role to play in this. It's not just about women being better than men or men being less important. It's about making sure everyone has the same rights and opportunities in this generation, no matter their gender.

What does feminism actually mean?... Feminism in general means giving women the same chances as men in work, education, and overall in life but we shouldn't give this another meaning like mixing women and men in the same sport because the actual fact is that, men are better physically when it comes to some sports. The truth also remains that there are some jobs that men are naturally better than we women and we can't even participate in such works.

But in works or jobs that we women can participate, feminism is about fighting for we women's rights to vote, to have a good job, to get equal pay, and to live without fear of violence. All this can't happen except we women and men agrees to this because feminism is also about men having the freedom and acting without fear to express their feelings and take on roles traditionally seen as "women's roles".

From @abenad article where she gave an example on hoe some women think that feminism means they have to do everything on their own and never accept help from men or they don't need men in their life because they feel that if a man offers to help, he thinks they are weak. But that's not true let's demolish and clear such mindsets because feminism is not about rejecting help from men, it's about ensuring that help is offered and accepted as equals because if a man offers to help another man, I'm sure the man will be willing to accept without thinking whether the man is belittling him.

I also had a story about my friend and we are literally best friends and she takes this role of feminism in her life like too serious and she doesn't understand what it truly means. To be honest, my friend whose name is blessing was actually a strong, independent friend but the problem is that, she doesn't want anything to do with men and she actually said she wouldn't marry. One day, her computer broke down at the office and i had no idea of how to repair it and i told the computer guy in our office to help her when me and blessing have tried our best and nothing happened and immediately the computer guy came in, blessing quickly said, "No, thanks. I can handle it."

I was shocked and i had to meet her and asked her why she said no because we both know he's the only one that could help as at that time. So blessing started explaining everything on how she wants to be a feminist and also a role model to other femist out there. I had to sit her down and explain what being a feminist it and at the end of the day, she later realized that by refusing computer guy help, she was missing the point of feminism. Accepting help doesn't mean you are weak, it means you recognize when teamwork can make things easier.

We all need to know what feminism is about and we all need to know our roles as a feminist and the little ones i know are

  1. Accept Help Gracefully: If someone offers to help, it's okay to accept it, Helping each other is a part of working together as equals because we can't be equal if we don't see men as our equals.

  2. Educate Yourself and Others: Learn more about what feminism actually means, share this knowledge with friends and family and even try sharing on social media because some girls have totally misunderstood what feminism actually means and they are also passing the wrong information to other young girsl growing up.

  3. Support Each Other: Encourage other women and men to understand and practice feminism. Stand up for equal rights and opportunities for everyone wherever you find yourself including place of works, restaurants, church, mosque. Ensure that women are not seen as second options, if they deserve it let them have it. Don't let gender determine their achievements.

With this few write up, i hope we now understand what feminism is about from the aspect of equality and cooperation. It's about understanding that men and women can help each other and work together without anyone feeling less important or being a second option. Let's embrace the true meaning of feminism and create a life where everyone has the same chances to succeed and be happy wherever they find themselves.

Well, I’m a general setting and especially when it comes to gender, it’s about how we help / work together to make humanity better and not to kind of compete amongst ourselves.

Blessing no try!

At all, she no try

That's toxic feminism. I belive many women are in the same shoe with blessing where they don't really understand what feminism means apart from women empowerment and being independent. Which they twisted to meaning you have to do it all by yourself without the help of the opposite gender.

It's a noble thing you did when you helped her to define what the word feminism is all about. I've met women like this and it's not always a good experience. But I think if more women are enlightening their fellow women on their roles as a female then we can help eradicate this misconception that had taken root in the mind of millions of women around the world.

Misunderstandings can lead to negative experiences, but with open conversations and education, I hope they all have help to clarify the true meaning of feminism and not the toxic feminism they are indulged in.

Thank you for sharing this amazing content.

Can this even be possible Biologically?

There are some job men can sustain themselves in but ladies can’t. Because of health wise and physiological functionalism.

I understand women want this right on the occupational work but there are limitations to what women can do too. No offenses

We all understand that certain jobs are typically for men alone, but what we need is for women to have the same opportunities as men in jobs where they can work.

You see that’s what I was talking about
There’s nothing wrong with accepting help from a man if he’s available and offers to help. Blessing would have taken that same help from a woman too but because of how she sees feminism, she’s all about, I can handle it myself when clearly she cant

That's the point, you don't want help from men but you can accept from women. What she knows about feminism is another thing entirely

Feminism is a very important issue, and sometimes I blame our gender because some just agree to whatever the opposite sex says, making them look valueless.
