The Danger of Unverified Information: How Rumors Can Ruin Lives

Rumors travel so fast than good news, people tend to believe what is wrong more easily than the truth, so many people will know the truth but still choose to spread the wrong news, I was once a victim of rumor which made me lose one of my precious relationship.

When I rounded up my secondary school education and was staying at home waiting for my admission into the university, my uncle's wife gave birth to a set of twin, I had to travel down to his place to greet him for some days before coming back to my parent, along the line his wife passed away, it was a painful and sad situation in the family.

The family all concluded that the children should be brought home to my mother because I was too young to take care of them and my Uncle was always busy with work, my mother was a civil servant she couldn't leave her work to stay with them because we weren't in the same city, we brought the child home and I started taking care of them as my children, I will be the one to feed them, put them to sleep, sing and the rest but I can not bath them because they were just a month when the incident happened.

I practically do everything for them, at this point, people suspected that I was the one who gave birth to those children, but no one asked me any questions, they rather gossip about the matter than face me, and it is none of my business then.

One beautiful afternoon, I was coming home from a church program and I met this good-looking guy, we spoke for some minutes and then exchanged contact, we connected easily and the bond was superb, he asked me out on a date which I accepted, things was going on so perfect between us not until one day.

We started having issues and our communication was lagging, I tried to talk to him but he wouldn't listen, he asked maybe I was keeping any secret from him but I said no because I could not remember any secret, he always ignored my calls and giving me attitude, I pleased just to know what the problem was because I like this guy so much.

Some weeks later he called me and was asking why I was hiding my children, he said confidently that I was the one who gave birth to those twin and I couldn't finish my secondary school, I was just laughing without any response, I am someone who doesn't like much explanation, I couldn't say a word to him about those children.

I would have loved to shed more light on it if he politely asked me without causing the issue but I thought I didn't owe him any explanation about it, after some months I started hearing different stories about myself that I dropped out of school and ran to my uncle's house to give birth, I never allow the rumor to weigh me down, I only laughed about it and move on with my life.

Rumor is not something worth killing yourself over, people will always talk be it true or false, and the rate at which you can hold yourself and walk past it makes you a strong person. I do not care about what people say about me because no one determines my Joy.
