The Hive Empowers Communities project is making a difference through the provision of portable water to communities that are undergoing water stress. We have been able to reach different communities, and reaching the Northern part of Ghana marks a significant milestone. Unlike most regions in Ghana, accessing clean water in the Northern Region is a constant struggle, and this is as a result of several factors.
The region experiences a long dry season and inconsistent rainfall patterns that leads to periods of drought that significantly reduce the availability of water sources. Moreover, there is inadequate infrastructure for water distribution by the Ghana water company and many communities have to rely on dams, wells, and rivers that can dry up or become contaminated. Efforts by the government including the construction of "One Village One Dam" project has not been effective.
The picture below was taken in the area and is an example of the dam projects.
Addressing these challenges requires a multi-faceted approach, which includes investment in infrastructure, sustainable water management practices, and community engagement and education on water conservation. Drilling of wells and boreholes can be very challenging in the region and sometimes unproductive as a result of the geological conditions of the area which consists of hard rocks that are less permeable.
However, we have been successful with construction of mechanised borehole. Yesterday was a day of jubilation in Nanton Kpawumo, Northern Region, as Hive unveiled the 4th borehole in the region, bringing the total boreholes to 15. The launch was done with a beautiful ceremony which brought together the residents, the chief representatives, and local leaders to celebrate this life-changing project. For several residents the difficulty in obtaining water means they had to rely on untreated water sources like dams, which is risky as it threatens their health and well-being.
However, Hive's project has made so much difference. This mechanized borehole is reliable and it's able to produce abundance of clean water every day, readily available to meet the needs of the residents. This launch event marked the third phase of Hive's project where we unveil the new project and complement the efforts with media coverage. In attendance of the event was some local media stations who took coverage of the positive changes Hive is making through the power of decentralized blockchain technology.
It was one of the moments we have witnessed throughout the borehole construction and unveiling, it was joyous celebration by a community who will no longer be worried about how they will be able to access clean water. Hive's 15th borehole is a testament to the fact that it has the potential to make lives even better. We look forward to keeping up with this effort. This is a big impact Hive has made and everyone in the decentralized community has played a crucial role towards it.
A BIG thank you goes out to the entire Hive community and especially to @valueplan for the sponsorship in making the Hive Empowers Communities Project a reality. We appreciate @abdul01 and everyone in the North that was present at the launch. A big shoutout to @elevator09, you one of the people I guess would be proud to see this. Together, we can achieve incredible things. We are happy to celebrate clean water for Nanton Kpawumo and all the positive impacts Hive is generating through blockchain innovation.
A great milestone for Hive and a great relief for Nantog community. Thanks to everyone who made this possible
Indeed a great achievement by Hive. Happy to see this happen again in the North. Thanks for your presence and contributions at the event.
