Establishing a sound library on BlockTunes/Hive

in BlockTunes2 years ago (edited)

I have been chatting with @groove-logic both on Hive and Discord about the possibility of establishing a library of sounds here on the chain. Such sounds could be anything that you'd like to use in your own productions, which means they'd be released on a creative commons basis, for podcasts, videos and music productions of various kinds. In other words a sample library comprising of audio loops and one shot sounds. Everyone on the platform being welcome to participate.

The idea dawned on me when I was reading the post on how to use NFT.storage to upload audio to share in posts or add to the Blocktunes NFT library, so I am going to experiment with this in the coming days by adding some of my own creations.

I mostly use the iPad these days for creating synth loops which is both fun and very productive, I'll write some posts and explain my process along the way and add to the library in order to kickstart the project. If you would like to take part, let me know.

I shall leavr it at that for now, will post later, just interested to know people's thoughts on this before I commit time to it :-)

Ooh, that sounds interesting!
So something to be used for travel videos etc? That would be brilliant!
The idea being that they're royalty free, anybody can add and use?
That would be cool!

Yes they could be used in vlogs and that kind of thing. Contributors would earn through the platform anyway, same as they usually do but the sounds/loops/fx/tracks are Royalty free, so long as of course the original creator is credited. I am going to see what I can achieve through Blocktunes first.

Initially I am concentrating on shorter drum and synth loops, arpeggios and short sequences. We could add to that piano, guitar and other accoustic recordings. Field recordings from the natural, urban and world beyond would also fit the bill.

Massive scope - whether this would work with BTunes or need a platform of it's own, that's all much further down the line.... let's start off with some baby steps.

Baby steps it is! Sounds brilliant!
And, yes, putting the source is a must I should think.

I have just headed over there to log in; so this is where I can store mp3 and such like like in Soundcloud, only now on the blockchain?

There’s an article pinned to the home page on how to use nft storage to upload files and then share them in posts. There is a small issue with the presentation as you’d expect to see a player on the screen, similar to SoundCloud but this doesn’t work at the moment. Instead a link can be added and the content will play in a separate tab.

I’m currently experimenting and @groove-logic is the best person to ask.

Ah great, thanks! Name noted.. :)

Hello @richardfyates and thanks for the follow. I love your Objkt portfolio, it's brilliant :-)

The BlockTunes NFT marketplace already uploads directly to IPFS so you don't need to use the nft.storage option. That would be for if you wanted to just host your files for free on a decentralized storage network, then share the link to the file.

My thought is to just use the NFT market for samples and grooves alike. I would live to see people bring back some usage of the platform and bring some life back to the MUSIC token.

@groove-logic ok let me try something out with it and shall help bring that token back to life. I just need some time to figure out the options.

Feel free to come chat in the BlockTunes discord server and chat with @thelogicaldude (still me, haha). Any ideas to bring this thing back to life that doesn't cost money would be great, lol. I do have some good ideas though working with some really awesome EVM based tools, but need to get some musicians onboard to help fill out the libraries, then we need users to use the marketplace. It's a vicious cycle and I can't do everything. Everyone that said they would help in the beginning here on Hive has since ghosted the project. I don't know, and then the different music communities didn't want anything to do with us, so it's going to take getting outside of the Hive echo chamber.

Any particular channel on Discord? I've got Blocktunes already on my list and we can have a good chat about it.

The BlockTunes server is good

I’ve just mentioned you on blocktunes posts

What an amazing idea

Thankyou, see my reply above to @anna-newkey where I add some more context

this is a neat idea! Tag us in more posts about it!

I will guys and I’m delegating to you too. I’ll add a tag section

I think this is a great use of the tech!

The idea came to me when @groove-logic wrote an article on block tunes about NFT Storage which made me realise that rather than embedding soundcloud links in posts, I could use a blockchain related technology to achieve this, IPFS. Being a sound designer amongst many other things, I thought it would be a good way to curate sounds. Thanks for the follow!

I’m going to call this, The Hive Sound Library unless a more imaginative name is suggested?!
