Wisin & Yandel

WISIN & YANDEL Stage name of the Puerto Rican reggaeton singers Juan Luis Morera Luna (Wisin) and Llandel Veguilla Malavé (Yandel), born respectively in 1978 and 1977 in the city of Cayey, in southern Puerto Rico.

Also known as W & Y, the Duo of History and The Dynamic Duo.

In his hometown, Wisin worked as a hairdresser, while Yandel had completed theater and acting studies. In musical matters they shared the same tastes, and soon they made their debut in the world recording some songs on compilation albums. In 1998 they participated in the album No Fear 3, produced by DJ Dicky; a year later, in the compilation La Misión, Vol 1, published by the Fresh Production label. The success of this compilation (which reached a gold record) led the record company to produce Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio, Wisin y Yandel's first album.

From that moment on the duo reaped one success after another. They continued to publish new songs in successive editions of La Misión and recorded three new albums: De Nuevos a Viejos (2001), Mi Vida ... My Life (2003) and De Otra Manera (2004). The three were gold disc. Their still incipient musical career was also recognized with the Tu Música Prize for the best rap and reggaeton duo, which was awarded to them in 2002.

Although they were in a sweet moment, there was speculation about a possible separation of the duo when, in 2004, The Survivor of Wisin and Who against me appeared? by Yandel, first solo albums. The sales figures were also remarkable, but the dreaded divorce was also not recorded in his biography. In 2005 Wisin y Yandel, as united or more united than before, presented Pa'l Mundo. It included songs that became famous immediately, such as Rakata and Night of Sex. In short, another resounding success that deserved the album to be nominated for the Billboard Awards.

The duo announced that same year the creation of their own record company, WY Records, with which they would publish Los Vaqueros and Los Vaqueros Wild Wild Mixes the following year (remix of the previous one); for its recording they had collaborations with prominent reggaeton figures. Songs like The Telephone and I Love You became immensely popular. Less successful was 2010 Lost Edition, a compilation of previous songs.

Its relevance within the genre is such that the sum of the duo's components and the undisputed Don Omar is known as the reggaeton Bermuda triangle. They themselves have begun to call themselves Los Extraterrestres, which was also the title of an album with new songs that they released in 2007. Their successful discography was joined in 2008 by Los Extraterrestres Reloaded: Otra Dimensión (which in September 2008 had sold ten million of copies) and Wisin & Yandel: The Master Mind.
