Este jenero musical tubo sus orígenes en Panamá y Colombia pero es muy popular en América Latina . Su istorua se remonta alos esclavos africanos de los españoles que junto con los indígenas funcionaron sus culturas rítmicas y su forma de danzar . En 1940 la cumbia se introdujo en los demás países de latinoamericanos
