My latest song, “But No, I Don’t Want To,” just dropped! This song coincides with the 5th novel in my comic book series, Frankie Ravens. You can listen to this song here: https://snd.click/but-no-i-dont-want-to

I wrote this song about the addiction to social media and staying connected. The hero in my 5th comic book, Frankie Ravens, battles a social media giant, Wanda Silva. Wanda entrances Frankie with her social media charm and they begin to rumba dance on the stage in front of the crowd—against Frankie’s will. Frankie is immersed in Wanda’s “timeline” spell and can’t stop swaying side to side—even though she doesn’t want to.

Much like Frankie, we often find ourselves immersed in social media and swiping side to side on our phones, captivated by yet another social post or news headline. Maybe we feel like we don’t want to sit and stare at our screens, but it feels as if our willpower is overwhelmed by something larger, so we keep on swiping.

“I’m following and watching your every move
I’m syncing to the rhythm of your dreamy melody
Clicking left and right; I’m lost in your social tide
Adrift in your timeline; a viral sensation...
Swaying side to side, but no, I don’t want to... "

This first verse is sung from Frankie’s perspective and describes how she has fallen into the riptide of Wanda’s social media control. They dance across the floor and “sync to the rhythm” of Wanda’s dreamy melody. I combined multiple forms of art to portray the message: song, words, and imagery.

To tell this story, I use graphic artwork to show Frankie and Wanda rumbaing across the stage; story words, or lyrics, to describe their dance to the reader; and body movement in the rumba dance as a metaphor for a social media addiction.
