Paul Gilbert: One of the great masters of rock guitar

My passion for the past 20 years has been playing the guitar, I do it at an amateur level and my goal is to improve the technique but it takes a long time and unfortunately in my life I have not devoted enough time to music to become really good. The rock world really has a lot of sacred monsters of the guitar among which I present one of the greatest, from my point of view: Paul Gilbert

Paul Gilbert flourishes in the hard rock era of the 80s, showing off an impressive technique and speed, consisting of scales played with alternating picking at very high speed, neoclassical phrasing, sweep picking, tapping. Techniques very popular in the metal world, long solos that highlight the skill and incredible precision despite the very high execution speed

Paul Gilbert produces a lot of teaching material using the Ibanez electric guitar, a music company that will dedicate a custom model to the artist, the PGM100 (Paul Gilbert Model, of which there will be different editions over time, adapting it more and more to the evolution of his style and his technique.

The guitarist's maturity evolves and with it his style, as happens with the band Mr Big, embracing less metal melodies, more harmonic, and softer solos than the aggressive ones of his first era as an artist. Less metal does not mean easier but it is a continuous search for even more difficult techniques, with chords that are impossible to perform unless you have a truly elastic and trained hand like his.

Today Paul Gilbert does a lot of didactics, studies and travels the world delighting his fans with small concerts. Times have changed, metal is a bit out of fashion but the love for music remains unchanged!

How can you not like Paul? In every interview he's always so willing to share his knowledge. He is so polite but as you said, plays like a monster.

You should post some of your stuff here. We need more guitarists! 😁
