Basic Tools for Effective Supervision

in Project HOPE4 years ago
Greetings dear fellow members of the "Project Hope" community, I hope everyone is very well, it is a pleasure to share with you this post, this time I want to present a topic that I consider very important, basic tools for effective supervision, in my work experience I have observed with concern, that people hired to manage staff often have no knowledge or skills to lead a team, I believe that in addition to possessing technical knowledge of the activities to be supervised must also develop skills that allow you to direct, stimulate, evaluate and enhance human talent within their work teams.

The supervisor's function has recently been transformed, in the past it was based on achieving results through personnel management, ensuring that employees have an understanding of the activities to be performed and supervising the task of each employee.

Today this function has changed, supervisors are trained more and more frequently to encourage employees with the work and make them feel committed, generate great ideas and form work teams. In addition, they also have the responsibility to implement new ideas and directions for their team, implement creative ways to convey information to their staff, and maintain the strength of their team.

Effective supervision is a coupling of human relations, leadership and motivation, it is a proper management of supervision considering these aspects.

The following tools facilitate effective supervision:

1. communication skills: communication in the organization is essential, the achievement of objectives depends largely on how this is. The supervisor must have the ability to deliver clear, forceful messages in a few words, be able to speak and express him/herself easily, so that everything he/she wants is transmitted. Know how to listen to the personnel under his charge and take into account their feelings so that they feel that their opinion is considered and taken into account. Similarly it is also very important to manage very well the nonverbal communication, knowing what the body can transmit helps to better understand individuals, and at the same time communicates in a more correct and appropriate way.

2. Time management: a good supervisor must be able to prioritize the order of relevance of the activities to be performed and those assigned to employees.

3. Effective work teams: for any organization it is essential to promote teamwork, therefore a good supervisor must have the ability to integrate in such a way the employees under his charge, so that they work under the principles of teamwork.

4. Conflict management: having the ability to make decisions and being a good negotiator and mediator in the face of conflicts is fundamental, since it is practically inevitable that conflicts arise in any social interrelationship, even in the work environment such situations arise. It is necessary to know how to manage calmly and be able to solve these daily situations.

5. Assume criticism in a constructive way: be able to accept criticism and listen to the opinions that others have about you in a calm and receptive way to the debate.

6. Exclude any negative opinions you may have of your employees and focus on achieving positive results with the resources you have.

7. Manifest self-assurance, and make sure you know what activities you are performing, this provides confidence to your team.

8. Be empathetic with your employees and make sure you show sensitivity to their welfare inside and outside the company.

9. It is important to give credit to employees who have done a good
job and when they make a mistake provide feedback.

In conclusion, I believe that the idea of a supervisor who only cared about making sure that the task is done is now a thing of the past, his responsibility goes beyond that, and is key in achieving the objectives of the organization, nowadays a supervisor is required to have the characteristics of a leader for his work team.

Very good post actually nowadays supervision goes beyond simply achieving results also focuses attention on the core processes that not only have to do with productivity but also with the development and organizational climate which is important for the success of any company or organization.

Hello @emimoron Thank you very much for your appreciation!...it is very true that investing in developing an adequate organizational climate is fundamental for companies today...greetings and thank you for reading!

A lot of people confuse supervising with not doing anything at all. Nice points raised.

Hello @valchiz Thank you for your comment. It is very important that the people who supervise the staff are trained, and these generally should rather set an example, contrary to what is believed as you say that it will not do anything ... greetings and thanks for reading!
